Official-the Last Samurai- Thread
I just got back from seeing this movie.
AMAZING. best movie ive seen in a long time, depressing at the end though
i dont really care all that much if this is based on actual events or not, i found it to be a great story. If you know anything about the japanese culture or about the samurai culture, you will agree that this was a truly great movie.
SEE IT ASAP

How well does the film relate to the actual rebellion?

Good movie. Russel Crowe would have been a better choice than Tom Cruise for the role. [Samurai] reminds me of Dances with Wolves. The ninja fight scene was awsome too. Return of the King will blow this movie away though.

I loathe Russel Crowe (sp?).
If the man could choose one accent and stick with it for an entire movie, he might not be *that* bad.
Looking forward to seeing this movie

yeah i saw it, it was pretty awesome. bit too dramatic for me (the whole army kneeling before tom at the end). and those ninjas would have owned them.

im into the stuff pretty deep (anime, history, etc.) know quite a bit about it, so im def gonna go see it. one thing i really kinda was disapointed in was the title of the movie, its incopetant and lame imo but dont judge a book by the cover so off i go. (if i could go see it i would, 2 feet of snow +)

Great movie, it was 154 minutes long, but it was all good because those were entertaining minutes. All though I was blazed out of my mind and thought I had been in the theater for 2 days. Also there are 1 or 2 points where you wonder why ins't this over yet, but something new comes up.

The title is the way it is because, 'the last samurai' are supposed to be the rebelling samurai that do not want their area to be modernized. Or at least that is how I interpereted it.
