Phantom air-through grip mod

Got bored and after seeing the internals of a redux I decided internal air lines would be a slick looking mod.

Had this up on MCB for a while and thought I'd share to those of you who don't head over there to often.

Milled a hole in the bottom of my 86* frame and tapped the top of the ASA for a microline fitting.

Milled another hole for the microline to travel to the new port in the valve.

Milled the last hole in the trigger frame to allow an area for the top microline fitting to sit.

Finally tapped the valve in the bottom for the new air line I also bobbed the valve to remove the old NPT fitting hole and for a slightly sleeker look.

Added bonus:
If the gripframe is milled correctly you can rotate the ASA backwards for Hawaiian style, or normal for using a tank like so:

I did it with a Garg trigger assembly and CCM 86* frame, but other people have successfully done this mod on stock CCI assemblies w/ CCI 45 frames. Your mileage may vary.

Enjoy!

Yep. You might need to adapt a Phantom valvebody to fit the Trracer's grip frame, or else find some way to block off the backbottle ASA threads, maybe with a plug or something, but in theory this is very possible.

I don't want to say "impossible," but the gas enters sniper several inches forward of the grip frame. You might be able to do this by making a custom body with internal gas galleries but at that point you're basically designing a completely different gun. If you let yourself have a few inches of exposed SS line it might not be so difficult, but it wouldn't be a as clean as Readbeard's Phantom.

i got an asa reducer that i might cut the line off it and tap it for a gauge but for the trilogy based sniper, i know that the is a vertical asa/reg mount on it thats intergrated in the body so could i just do something similar to the trracer with an asa reducer and drill and tap the vertical asa/reg mount with a macro-line fitting?

If you don't care about the back of the gun looking clean, using a reducer and plug/gauge would work fine. What makes this mod trickier on a Trracer is that a Trracer (and most Nelson clones) have much shorter valvebodies than the Phantom. There should be enough space along the bottom of the valvebody to tap it without running into the tank or cupseal threads and still have a clean shot through the interior of the grip frame for the air line, but it's been a while since I measured.

As for the trilogy, sure, you could put an ASA reducer in the vertical adapter and run a line out of there. Heck, that's how I run my Sniper. It just wouldn't be internal, which I thought was the whole point here.

This is awesome. How did you go about making the valve body?

Checked the clearance on my Trracer this evening.
Doing this mod on that gun would be very tricky, if it's even possible. There's almost no space to tap into the bottom of the valvebody in a way that would conceal the air fitting in the grip frame.

What is that you used for the front gas through or regulator? Or did it end up being just sort of a forward grip?

That is a stock CCI VSC valve, I just cut off the back 1" and tapped it for a gauge, the bottom of the valve was then tapped and threaded

It's just a forgrip, I have since removed it until I can get a forgrip that doesn't have ASA holes and looks good on my Gargoyle.

Cool. I see you also took off the undercocking kit, any reason why? Here is mine, do you think this mod is possible on it?

Undercocking kit: Didn't look as good on the Gargoyle, and I don't mind the feel of the Gargoyle pump half as much as the stock plastic phantom pump. I love undercocking kits, but for this specific one I'm going to keep it as is.

Mod on your phantom: Absolutely, I've found the phantom to be the most simple option for this mod, although it is possible to do it on most other nelson based markers.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. If you don't mind, what size is the hole you had to drill for the fittings to fit through and what is the thread size and pitch for air fittings ? Is it necessary to chop the valve down or is there a reason for it? Thanks
