Not to start a fight but that's a 50% drop in teams participating.
I also remember just a few years ago they had 5 fields at HB and at the last Commanders Cup even more.
Now HB has 3 a 40% drop and just over 100 teams after adding divisions and dropping team size to 5 in some of the lower divisions.
Las Vegas has 3 fields this year.
For contrast PSP has 200+ teams and more than 5 fields at almost every event now.
Assuming the same drop that would mean they had 400+ teams back in the day? (only recently got interested in PSP so I have no idea of their past)
Personally I prefer "Race to..." format, seems to reward risk, limit the temptation to cheat and with crowd participation it is much more exciting.
7 man is format that pushes caution as the prelims progress as no one wants to drop points that might keep them out of the semis.
During finals when it's essentially "Race to 2" the game changes and becomes much more exciting.
I agree that we all need to work together to keep Paintball thriving.
