Army not accepting anyone with Felony charges? Please help.

Before I ask any questions I'd like to start off with what happened at the Army recruiters:

A few days ago I went into the army recruiters to ask them a few questions about different MOS. Before I even got started I informed the recruiter of my criminal history (which at the time I did not think would be a problem). He said they aren't taking anyone with felony charges. The earliest this might change would be October of this year, but that is not guaranteed.

I was under the assumption that I no longer had a "record" due to a few different things. At the time of my arrest I was a juvenile (15 at the time). My record was supposedly expunged at the completion of my probation/community service. All records of my arrest and criminal history were sealed at the court house (which I assume means no one can access them). When I talked to the air force recruiter last year I signed off on a paper allowing him to search my criminal record. He informed me that he found nothing. Lastly I was never convicted of any charges against me. The petition in my case was dismissed upon my completion of probation/community service. (Legal speak for the charges brought against me were dropped after I completed my probation. At least that's what I got from it)

The felony charge was Burglary which is an F2 felony.

The army recruiter informed me that he would still be able to see that I was on Juvenile Probation and see the charges that way. He also said that because charges were brought against me and I did have to go through probation and community service the army looks at that as being guilty.

My questions are:
1. Did I screw up by telling him in the first place?
2. Has anyone else had this problem?
3. He did mention something about a pardon letter I could get from my state that would allow me to join? Does anyone know anything about this?
4. Does anyone know any other ways around this?
5. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was really disappointed by this and I really hope I can work around it.

Thanks.

You're an idiot.

Your record is NEVER sealed from the Federal Government, I never understood why people continue to think this.

I like criminals in the Military because theyre more willing to do risky **** but my opinion is invalid.

If you were charged but never convicted you still have the arrest on record iirc. You really need to speak with the attorney you originally represented you or another one and seek out expunging both the arrest record and the court record. The laws on this vary state to state.

If the military still won't accept you after doing that at least you will have a technically clean record and can seek out employment elsewhere.

He wasn't convicted. If all someone knows is crime it's only going to benefit him by going for something else. You probably know better than I do that someone doesn't need to have a criminal record to be a complete piece of ****.

The army is downsizing. They are kicking out competent, fit, experienced soldiers that are 17.5x the man you could ever be.

They are not going to let the likes of you join anymore, and they never should have in the first place.

Thanks for the useful info Volucris.

I do have a full time job already but it's retail and getting old.

I've never had a problem with normal employment apps. I always just answer no for any questions regarding misdemeanors, felonies, etc.

I also have not been arrested or even had a traffic violation since that incident. I was young and stupid, stuff happens.

Juvenile charges hardly even weigh in at the Cadet Command level, which is downsizing even more than the big Army. So I'd say you should be fine - may require a waiver (MAYBE) but with a juvenile charge you SHOULD be ok.

...but I hate the word SHOULD. So don't quote me.
