I need your Input

Hello Oklahoma I Need Your Help

My name is Chris Rangel, maybe some of you might remember me from Adventure world when I worked there off and on between leave. I helped out Marvin and Ted when I could. The reason for this thread is simple. I'm going to open a field in Oklahoma City, Indoor and outdoor at one location. A little about me before we get to far into the weeds. I'm currently a Active duty Sergeant in the United States Marines. I'm a 3 time Iraq war veteran. I'm coming up soon on getting out of the Marines to pursue this "dream/passion" that like most of you in Oklahoma play every weekend all over the state. Money isnt a issue. The VA gives very large loans to its Combat Veterans. Why am I posting this? I need your input.

Ive been in this sport for around 13 years now. I've watched the game go from the woods to Xball and watch the Scenario market Explode as well. I want the input from the players. Who goes to a field and complains about whats messed up with a field. I don't want that at my place. I need honest feedback and not junk about "hook ups" and so forth. This is a very serious matter to me and life. I hate going to a field paying 25 dollars to play then paying 40+ for a case of old white box. I know the main suppliers personally all over the country from Cali to North Carolina even to Canada. I indeed to bring the absolute best possible experience every time you come to the field or come to hang out and just relax.

Please post your thoughts and what you the player thinks.

Here are my thoughts in no particular order so bear with me. Always updating as well.

1. Indoor and out door fields at one location
2. 5 and 3 man fields
3. Large area to hang out whenever not just to play paintball but after school etc with T.V's and couch's so forth and so on
4. Small food stand and drinks
5. Pro Shop and Tech Center with large variety of entry level gear to pro
6. Paint prices are low and stable
7. Will be a Xball set up for the 5 man
8. Local tournament events in house
9. one night a week where its free to play (minus) paint (ie) PSP thursdays where you pay only 5 dollars for air
10. BYOP with out fee's
11. Keeping entry and air under 20 dollars
12. Turf or Carpet flooring
13. Dedicated Staff of Ref's
14. Constant and fresh Field Set ups

that is a very good idea and i personally like the idea of a indoor field in okc becuase the only other one in oklahoma is in sand springs oklahoma and that is a long ways away for me and another think would be good is turf be cause carpet leaves big holes in your pants. And reallygood lighting

I want to make it in Oklahoma City because its in the Center of the state

Did you like or dislike the flooring at Adventure World Indoor while it was open

With the lighting Ive put a very hard thought about this
Due to "poor thinking" by players and shooting them out
I want to make sure there is ample lighting but must be protected

i liked it but eventually it burnt holes in my pants and i didnt like that. and one way to keep the lights covered and save and still be able tosee out of it is get white netting like gatsplat in texas and thewhite will even amplify the light to make it brighter

Very good Idea ...
Turf is hard to maintain as in keeping the floor clean

how they keep their turf clean is that they wash it out with a water hose after they use that golf cart thingy

I think this is an amazing idea.. Wish it was in Tulsa.
good ideas:
1. definitely turf indoors (Incredible Paintball's turf in Tulsa was amazing)
2. possibly NPPL turf outdoors... (something like www.razalife.net would be phenominal) This isn't necessary really, just a nice bonus
3. Lighting, good lighting is key, but no matter how good the lighting is, if it is eye level with the playing field... it's chit. so definitely need high ceilings.
4. To get players during the week, your gonna have to come up with a bomb promotion. just my opinion.

For the lights, I would put very small woven grates over them.
So as soon as the ball hits, it breaks.
Clean up would be a pain, but cant argue with safety and not having to worry about your bulbs being shot up.

I think this is also a great idea.
I agree with sumsemperfi, playing during the week for me would be a plus.
Im not to big on the byop though, isnt fun to get shot up with old paint.
I could also help out if you needed help.
I have a crappy job right now that I would be willing to drop and come help you out if you needed. PM me.
Have you found a location yet and when do you plan on getting this up and runnning?

This is probably the woods/ scenario player in me, but i would love to see an urban course. I realize it would be hard to plant trees in the city, unless it is a ficus, which my car insurance covers in case it falls on my car. So imho, I think an urban course is a great compromise.

Also, I think that with a little door-2-door advertising, you could probably get some corporations and churchs to attend as a team building thing. Hell, I bet my job would love to play against other stores.

Like i said, just my $1.05

I hope you take advantage of the GI Bill and get a degree in business before jumping into the paintball biz. I have been in this sport for about 24 years, and I can’t tell you how many people I have seen jump in head first only to end belly up. The VA gives loans, not grants. If you don’t have a solid business plan, you’ll just be another flash in the pan.

While most of your thoughts are admirable, one stands out and out shines the rest.
BYOP with no fee…. Really???

You realize that no other indoor in this area has lasted more than a couple of years before closing their doors, and none of them tried BYOP…
because that’s how you pay your bills.

But if you’re just building your field of dreams, for whatever reason, good luck.

Will you have it open by April 1st?
