Anyone shoot a LOMO?

I do. A fisheye. I am not serious about photography, I just shoot for fun and like the effect that the LOMO brings.

heres a few random pics

definitely one of the worst fads to hit photography. "let's celebrate how worthless our snapshots are and write it off as art!"

I shoot this camera for the sole purpose of entertainment. I do not tout the artistic capabilities of the LOMO, this is because I appreciated its aesthetic value and not just its artistic value. I am by no means an artist. I am very well aquainted with artists and attend a college with one of the best photo programs in the nation. I know many, many photo majors there, they all dispute the artistic value of the LOMO as well. I am here to see who else shoots a LOMO and to converse about interactions with the device and its end product, I am not here to dispute the artistic value of this form of media.

thanks.

I'd like to have a Holga to play with, but it's too expensive for a toy.

Wrong on two points.

Lomo is the name of a camera (Lomographische), as well as short for the 'idea': Lomography, coined off of this camera, is used to represent a shooting style. It is supposed to be a relaxed, 'shoot-from-the-hip' type. The idea is kindof about breaking all the photographic rules. They stress not thinking, not worrying about focusing, etc. etc. A lot of the time people will cross-process their film as well, to add to the uncertainty.

It's sort of a semi-guided neo-dada thing (don't think about that too hard even if you know what I'm saying).

While I don't partake in this 'fad', I CAN see the appeal in it... but like with most fads, the majority of those who partake in it are not those that the real participants wanting to represent them (and is unfortunatley often the case)

i can dig the casual, snapshot aesthetic, and use it a lot in my own photography, as well as the "forget the technicals, just get the shot" directives, but i dont think the whole blindfire accident thing adds anything to lomo photos.

there are a lot of people who use some of the guiding principles very successfully, but many, many more who jump atop the bandwagon and produce utter garbage.
