Keep in mind that the HPR pressure is what is propelling the paintball. Start around 350psi and go from there.
The LPR pressure just cycles the bolt. Make sure it's high enough to kick the bolt back and feed paintballs, but it shouldn't be set excessively high or you'll have even worse efficiency.
Look down the breech while you're balancing the LPR and dry fire it a bit. Make sure the bolt goes all the way back every shot and that should be good.

It goes back all the way but it does not have enough push to get the ball out. the manual says to get the gage to about 260 and than adjust the regulator on the front until it leaks out the overflow valve than a half turn back. but i cant get it to work.
keep the help coming guys thanks

i never found the stock instructions on setup to work that well. In general the idea is good but....
For the HPR pressure we need to know if your 04 has a stock or HE bolt. 260ish is fine for a stock one but 350ish is needed for the HE bolt. once you set the HPR to that pressure you turn in the LPR till the bolt cocks back(I would have a swab down the neck while doing this). After that point it is fine(and I do mean fine) adjustments on the LPR to get it to cycle right.
It is a frustrating part to ICD markers but once they are balanced they shoot as good as any newer top end gun out there, just not quite as efficient in some cases.
Feel free to visit ICD-O(link in my sig) for a lot more detailed info on the freestyle and icd stuff.

As stated several times, the bolt is a balanced design, not like a direct spool valve such as a Dye marker where the LPR controls both the forward and rear bolt movement. Basically, the *only* thing that the LPR controls on a Freestyle is pushing the bolt back; the operating pressure from the inline regulator is responsible for both pushing the bolt forward and firing the ball.
With that in mind, Freestyles need to be set "just so" at times. If the LPR is too high or the HPR too low, the bolt will move forward sluggishly. In general, with an HE bolt, you'll be looking at ~325psi+ on the HPR and whatever is necessary for the snappy actuation of the bolt for the LPR. Here's how I set up my Freestyles: - Stick a swap down the feedneck
- Air up the marker and set the HPR (inline regulator) to ~300psi
- Turn up the LPR (the stock one is sensitive... use small adjustments) until the bolt goes back, then another ~1/16 - 1/8 turn (yes, early Freestyles were that sensitive that 1/16 could have a visible difference). The swab should not be held in place by the bolt at this time, so remove it.
- Now put a ball down the feedneck and fire it over a crono.
- If the ball is too slow, raise the HPR a bit and check to make sure the bolt is still actuating correctly (quick forward and rearward travel). If the bolt locks forward, raise the LPR a bit until it locks backwards and go to step 4
Really, any time you adjust the HPR, you'll likely want to adjust the LPR. If you plan on sticking with the Freestyle, I highly suggest replacing the regulators, which IMO, were one of the shortcomings of Freestyles. If you choose to do so, I'd definitely replace the LPR before the HPR and *HIGHLY* suggest the LPR made by Palmer Pursuit.

What's not working? Is the bolt not going back? Is the gun not firing at all? What other upgrades/equipment do you have?
Let us know what you're working with and the symptoms and maybe we can try and diagnose the problem.

fyi, my 04 ran close to 400 psi, and the cp reg is fine as long it is a high pressure one.

yah unfortunately there is no "ultimate setting" as far as the regulators are concerned.
I did find it a little easier to balance once I replaced the regs as the stock ones really aren't ideal(the stock HPR can be but takes an excessive amount of break-in time to be even close to consistent.)
follow the instructions FallenAngel gave above and you should be good, you just need patience and an understanding of how sensitive the regs are in relation to bolt action, the JDS LPR on mine seems to make a big difference with even less than 1/16th turns. When I adjust I put the allen wrench in and twist until the cap Just starts to move and stop immediately and this can be the diff between firing fine and shooting a ball 10ft.

i set the gage to 300 and start to tune the lpr and it just starts to leak out from everywere. if i can get it to stop leaking i can get the bolt to move back and forth but its not enouph presser to shoot a ball. I can put my finger down the neck and almost hold it back while shooting. so i turn up the hpr and it just leakes again.

If you turn up the HPR you have to turn down the LPR. Everytime you change the HPR you have to adjust the LPR. Also your dwell could be off.

What type of board do you have? You might have to adjust dwell, if you can.

i wouldnt start messing with dwell until other options are exhausted, I did this on my FSP and it led to more confusion. Ended up getting it fixed after I went back to stock dwell.
no, new noid should not make u need to change any settings unless the noid is a different model than stock. Now it is hard to tech this without being there but on mine, I up the HPR to 340ish and then turn in the LPR, while turning it in it will leak bad until it cocks back, made me nervous the first cpl times I did it, sounded like it was leaking more and more when I turned it in until I hit the right spot and then snap, bolt cocked and no more leak.
Also check any hoses in the marker, mine sat for 5 years and when I started tuning it again the LPR hose would push off and leak when I turned in the LPR, just replaced it with a new hose from my parts kit and bam, fixed.

trust me, it can seem like a big PITA setting these up the first few times. I had the added toruble of it having sat for almost 6 years when I decided to start playing again.
But once they are tuned, damn they shoot nice, I will be making a vid of mine on semi and psp3burst this weekend now that it is shooting so nice.

if this is your first high end gun, you mighthave bit off more than you can chew. The 04 were touchy, the 08 were a piece of cake. Several guys have helpfull sites, Greg and Gunsmoke. If i remember right, the stock board from that time had a flaw. It would double shoot the first shot. I still feel it might be the dwell. Good luck.
