If they do this then let the pros shoot 12.5 again. They need something good. And 10.2 is just awkward

sounds great to me...although this sounds like the same thing the NHL did with the puck so it glowed on TV and just turned the screen red

I think it's a great idea, unless it's the middle of winter then give me my Purple/Green RPS any day ;-)

This is definitely a good idea from a spectator's standpoint, but also would make the games more exciting to play and to watch. Yeah sure less people will be shot in gunfights as they see the paint coming in towards them, but I played against a team with bright yellow paint and you can literally see where your opponents lanes are being shot and punch through the gap.

More people getting shot out by moves being made and less getting shot out in cross field gunfights makes for more exciting games for player and spectator.

It's going to require a lot of changes. First you have to implement a rule that constitutes only 1 specific color shell. Then you have to have manufacture's on board and change the shell color of the paint that the pros use. Then you have to regulate it.

I don't really like the ideas it takes an aspect of stealthy shots out of the game, but if someone can prove a difference from a viewers perspective ON THE WEBCAST, then I'd be for it.

PSP would have to mandate it, in cooperation with their paint sponsor companies (KEE and GI I believe are the only ones at this time). But we have a voice and a stake in it as players, fans, and viewers, too. I know PSP representatives read the forums here. If we can keep this topic live and running, showing support for the change, it's something they couldn't help but consider.

I wouldn't expect any changes during the season, but it's something that really should be considered for 2015 and beyond.

I suppose this is really where everything has to start. Maybe have the Champion's final game at Riverside be with fresh bright paint and see how it compares.

Should not be done in the finals. If anything, they should try it during prelims.

100% agreed.

I have been saying this around me for years.

It is funny because at Digital Paintball (the video game) there is this common agreement that you cannot shoot dark paint otherwise you get kicked of the game.

Some day someone had the brilliant idea to make darker paint in order to satisfy teams on the short term.
Because it didn't take too long before everyone is shooting dark paint.

Long term > short term

I really just want the PSP to try this on the webcast for a single match and watch the Webcast. If you cannot see streams of paint, then I don't really see the point.

I really don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this change. If it's mandated, then EVERYONE will have to shoot that color and there will be no option for taking "stealth shots" with dark colored balls. It levels the playing field AND theoretically makes the webcast much easier to watch.

Aren’t most pro teams shooting dark balls anyways? So if all the top teams are already shooting dark balls, then no one really has an advantage over another, right? So this wouldn’t really change much for the players. But for the fans watching the stream, oh my! -- Please make this change.

The only possible issue I can think of would be, like mentioned earlier, the webcast not streaming in HD making it harder to see the streams.

I think this is an awesome idea along with some type of graphic before the buzzer to show Webcast viewers where to expect/see lanes and kills off break. Also in a 2 v.<2 situation to show the viewers how the team with lesser numbers is putting down their lanes to defend. Kind of like John madden drawing "routes" that a running back would make or how a defender would mover to prevent ball movement.

They did that a little bit awhile back. Matty had something where they would show the top down view and he could draw lines on the screen that would show up. Not sure why they stopped, maybe it didn't prove to be as beneficial as they hoped?

That actually makes a lot of sense. It'll really help spectators grok the flow of a games play. It's a bit of a player vs spectator preference issue though. I reckon as long as everybody has to shoot the paint, nobody will lose or gain relative competitive advantage and the sport will enjoy an improvement in the watch-ability of the game.

In terms of visibility the neon yellows, oranges, and greens command the most attention (it's why they're used for high visibility safety gear). Neon green might blend into the grass of the field from overhead shots, and so too might the yellow (on drier grass), I'd go with neon orange - like the Chronic shells of yesteryear. Those were bright neon laser ropes of awesome...

The Chicago Webcast was AWESOME to watch. I just found it hard to keep track of where bodies were coming from. This would definitely add an element to the viewing platform that WOULD be appreciated.

I think the idea of bright shells would make paintball much more of a spectator sport. But, you really have to test this on the webcast to see how paint visibility would change. Also keep in mind this could slow down gameplay...
