Are pumps more or less reliable then say electros or cockers?

i say more, only because there is less moving parts that can break. all you have is your lower tube, bolt, and pump handle that move, as opposed to solenoids, 3 way's etc. i could abuse the hell out of my pump and it would still function just fine.

Definatley more reliable than cockers, at least its a sniper, same gun, just without those finicky pnuematics.

As far as electros, at least modern ones, id say it depends. Guns like pe egos and geos are totally bombproof. Id say they would be, if it werent for batteries. That family of spools like the luxe, demon, vapor, etc are def less, between all the moving parts and constant mantinence they are much more likley to go down, and require more off the field time.

There are less moving parts on most pumps, so they are more reliable in that aspect. Some electros are very reliable (Egos, Geos, etc.) except for the batteries, but a good majority are reliable, as long as the required maintenance is done.

My Splatmaster worked for 17 years before needing a rebuild. I still use it for SC only games.

I have a Phantom that I've been using over 10 years that still has all the original parts (springs, seals, everything). All it ever gets is a good cleaning & lube.

My primary marker is a Sheridan KP-2df which has to be 25 years old.

I'd call those examples "reliable".

Autocockers: My best example would be a '96 LF that works fine with all original components, but that one required numerous replacement O-rings over it's lifetime. Most of the others I own have been upgraded to pumps as pneumatic parts failed.

I don't own any marker that needs a battery, so I can't make any real comparison there.
Of course, I've had pumps work longer than Electro's have even been around.

When an Electro can be used for 15+ years with no upgrades and replacing no more than O-rings (and batteries)...The way several of my pumps are...Then I will call an Electro "Reliable".

Mechanical gun vs Electro = No batteries or downtime.

Pumps require less maintenance too because you technically shoot less over time compared to the average person with an electro.

IE: You go play pump at an event say NPPL DC or PSP Chicago. A pump player will maybe use 1-2 cases max throughout the entire event. Whereas someone with an electro will burn through a case a match. Which in turn creates more wear on parts and requires more attention to the gun (lubing, batteries, etc)

I'm not saying electros aren't reliable either by any means. My vice was clean as hell and never had a hitch.

Pumps don't have electronics in them (solenoid/board) that can get burned up, damaged, or use batteries, obviously, which make them require more maintenance.

Also pump guns are extremely easy to fix most of the time if they ever happen to go down.
