they are in the works. I'm still deciding if I want magnetic ones or not. but I will say they will most likely work with either NXT or luxe detents. and eyes will depend on what board I decide to use.

alright, so i've had another idea that I think i'm going to try. instead of hoping I can get the resin perfect. I'm thinking I'll machine delrin rings for the locations where the orings seat. this way I can control the surface finish very easily and be assured that the orings will seal properly.

I got the delrin on order, and it should be here tomorrow or thursday.

the only issue I might have with this is the fact that delrin does not bond easily to other materials without special surface preparation. This is something I'll need to look into, or just hope I can scuff up the surface enough for a good bond to the carbon.

depending on what size orings you're going to use (well, cross-sectional thickness, but size is shorter to type, not like it matters any more ), you might be able to poke a small hole through the ring to the mandrel or whatever it's going to be on and hold it in with a needle or something. not sure a needle would be small enough if you're using 1/16" thick rings, but if it works, you'll have maybe a little nubbin in the bottom of the groove to take out with some sandpaper, and it'll stay put. not sure how you'd get the needle in, though, that'd be an awfully tiny drill bit, and i'd think delrin would split if you tried to jam the needle through it.

i might be reading something wrong about where you want to put the orings, but that should work if they're going to be internal rings. external, maybe not so much.

Any reason not to go with Aluminum for the o-ring receivers? Weight difference should be negligible.

the only real reason is that i'm trying to stay away from any metal in the body. I may end up using aluminum, but in the mean time i'll give the delrin a try. I actually was originally going to use AL before i decided to try and make it completely metal free. i have the AL tube stock and some carbon tubes that fit it right next to me.

cww516, i'm not sure what your trying to explain...?

never mind, i just realized it won't work anyway. i was thinking your plan was to make some little delrin rings to put over the mandrel to form your oring groves, and i suggested pinning them in place. just kinda realized that'll make it impossible to get the finished product off of the mandrel, even if it does hold everything in place.

maybe make the rings out of aluminum and cut the ID a hair smaller than the mandrel, boil 'em, and put them where you want them? they should snug down a little on the mandrel, and you can just chuck the whole thing in a bucket of hot water to get it off the mandrel.

i still don't think i'm quite clear on what you're trying to do with the delrin rings, though. are they there to take up space, and you'll cut them out after the fact, or are they inserts with pre-cut oring grooves that'll stay in the CF?

well instead of laying up the first layer of carbon by hand, i'm thinking of machining rings of delrin that fit over the madrel. these rings will be placed in areas where orings from the bolt assembly will sit. So instead of relying on the carbon and resin to create the oring sealing surface, i'll have the machined delrin rings.

I see what your saying now, but the oring grooves are in the bolt assembly, and seal up against the delrin rings explained above. I'll will be making the SFT oring groove similarly to the method you suggested, but i'll use wax, so I can just melt out the material. once the resin is cured.

well hopfully i'll have something soon. As soon as i get the delrin in, I should be able to start making the new body. In the mean time i'm going to try and tap the threads in the old body.

anyone own a cocker tap they want to let me borrow?

no, I have no idea. I'd like to have the body done by the end of January.

I really have no desire to make money off of it, I just want to do it because it's challenging and fun!
