custom paint

I have a tippmann 98 custom that i want to put a custom paint job on. I was curious what steps i need to take as to not ruin the gun and keep the paint from just rubbing off during play...any tips for custom paint jobs would be great.

You might try looking up a basic metal parts painting guide to get the basics down.. or if you ahve experience.. I would actually recommend automotive paint with a good clear coat.. I know that you can get small(3-4oz) cans of GM(general motors, ie: Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, etc) paint and clear coat at any GM dealership for like 9$ a can. I used it on a few parts for my truck and it all turned out alright.. You can also get primer from them as well.

My friend painted his tippmann flat black with just a light coat of some flat black krylon spray can paint.

Just remember to read a guide on painting metals, and also keep in mind that a good paint job is 90% prep work.. Without proper prep work and primer you may end up with a crappy paint job.
