At the moment I am only considering Toshiba and Asus. These are the three I am looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220552
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220651
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834114786

So, what do you think? Any others I should consider?

It won't be used for more than web browsing, word processing/spreadsheets, and sorting through/hosting pictures. I have a 500GB external HD, so storage isn't a huge issue either.

None of your links work

But i would suggest:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220678

Newest Atom processor, Windows 7 and plenty of HDD space

I just got this Brand New from a guy on Craigslist for $250, works great!

make sure it qualifies for the windows 7 upgrade. if so, just go with the xp one and upgrade it. save yourself 80 bucks.

It's between these three:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220552
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220651
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834114786

In case the links don't work, it's these models, roughly in this order:
#1. Asus 1005HA-PU1X
#2.Toshiba NB305-310
#3. Asus 1005HA-PU17

$350 is about my budget cap. OS isn't terribly important because I will likely put Ubuntu on it as soon as I get it (either dual boot or sole OS). A decent integrated camera is somewhat important because if I have the option, I would like to use it for video chat.

Eh, hard drive space isn't all that crucial to me. I have a 500GB external and I don't see myself installing many programs - iTunes/music player, chat client, and maybe a few others. The biggest space "filler" will be if I partition for a dual boot, though I plan on just going all out Ubuntu.

I honestly place more value on the camera MPs than on hard drive size. So, the 1.3 of the PU1X has more pull than the 0.3 of the PU17.

Lastly, Windows 7 Starter doesn't really excite me. If I want to keep my factory OS, I think I would prefer the XP home.

...I guess my mind is pretty well made up, maybe I should just order the thing already

Do you guys think netbooks will come with 2gb RAM pre-installed by the end of the summer? Or atleast, will they be much improved in specs and maybe in price too?

I want a netbook for college and I have the money now, but with the courses I got this semester I don't feel like I would need one now, should I wait? If they're gonna come with 2gb stock at similar prices they're at right now I'm going to wait for sure.

Ya, I thought so at first two, but Asus actually offers different camera models on the different 1005HAs. Unfortunately their site is down at the moment, so I don't really have any proof. I will try to find it once Asus' site is back up.

As for the RAM, I would like to do the 2GB upgrade, assuming I can. I do not know if Asus leaves you a second RAM slot on this model. Though, I am somewhat hesitant to do it while my factory warranty is still good.

Thats the model I just bought last week. Its awesome!

There is only one Ram slot, and its very easy to get to. The upgrade should take less than 5 minutes
