Oh, and if these guys didn't mention it, I lost my mom on Mothers day this year to a brain stem stroke. She and dad were together for 49 years.

He's doing pretty good now. Retiring early here in a bit. Lost his job of 29 years at the hospital a while back.

thats what killed my dad back in 96
went in for an out patient surgical procedure, had a stroke.
he made 3 months, deterioratingmore and more each day
his mind was sharp as a tack, but he couldn't function after awhile.
it was heart wrenching

She had hers on a Friday, Saturday we knew there was no recovery based on Neuro docs. Sunday we took her off life support and she passed within an hour n a half.

I have seen plenty of people die in my life. In all ways as well. But I wish I had stayed out of the room for the first 5 minutes after they took her off the vent. Watching and hearing your own mother choke and fight to breath was horrible. After a few min, she returned to normal, but still.... Taking someone off a vent is pretty traumatic when the body takes time to kick back into breathe mode.

I had to leave the room when there were taking the vent out of my Dad.
I was there for his last breath but in no way could I have been there for the first when they pulled it out
