You think we should have a general reptile thread, rather than just having a bunch of threads with just a few people posting? Not being a dick, just wondering. I'd rather have a large reptile forum, with more members posting.

Pbforfun do you mind posting a pic of your enclosures? Also what were you using for the female to be able to dig like that?
And I agree on the reptile only thread

i would but i dont have pics
and the dragons are not in the same place i live
its kind of a weird situation
im not allowed to have pets where i live so a friend has them for me right now
the material used for egg laying is vermiculite
its a soil additive, retains moisture really well and holds its shape well
i just got it wet but not soaked and put her in there
she did the rest

Yeah, I thought it was soil and sand. I've kind of wanted to try somethin like that because my old beardie always wanted to dig when it got dark and the lights went off. But never did because I thought it would be to much of a hassle maintaining it.
I don't breed so I've never really needed to make anything like that. But always thought it would be cool to try some time.

the vermiculite is just for laying eggs
in the enclosures themselves i use a mix of millet(a type of bird seed) and sand
this allows the dragons to dig when the lights are off
they like to dig a hole then sleep in it
they dig a new one every night as well
i wouldnt use soil because of the additives that are in it
theres all kind of chemicals in it that are dangerous to your dragons

i know, but very lightly add sand. it further promotes egg laying. quicker you have eggs laid quicker you can get the next batch

Of couse when using soil you would have to use chemical free soil. But it's good to know that there is an other option.
Man I'd really like to see a pic of your enclosures.
Is there any difficultly with keeping maintenance? Do you get any problems with bugs in the enclosure? I ask because I get fruit and house flys in mine, they are attached to the UVB light and make there way into the enclosures. Also what about when the dragon defecates how do you clean it up?
