Yes, without it you'll break paint 10/10 times.

Look down your barrel without the insert and then put one in and look at how smooth the transition is from the barrel back to the barrel tip and that'll explain your paint breaking problems.

I highly recommend that you read the manual that came with the Luxe Oled. It is located on the right side of the case in a zipper pouch above the gun.

Page 15 explains the Freak Barrel System.
