You could do teh 28-75 2.8 from Tamron or the Sigma 24-70 2.8 and it will fit right in.

the 70-200 is where isn't at my man.. just practice with it more and you'll learn to love it.

28-135 is a very good lens for the money. That's what I started out with, sold it to finance my first L zoom, then ended up buying another one when my wife got her first dslr. Biggest downside is the variable maximum aperture.

just depends on where you are on the field but it should be just fine. It's just one of those lenses that has great IQ while covering wide angle to telephoto.

hey guys i was wondering what some people use for protection on the field, I just got back from HB and saw a bunch of ppl use this bag thing that the camera goes in ?? (Gary Baum) and (lady in orange jumpsuit) were using them i think. And others use a towel or other material wrapped around the body and lens.

Just trying to get a few ideas

Some use a rain bag that completely covers everything but the front of the lens like the Kata E-702. Others use sweatbands on the lens body and some use a neoprene body case with holes cut for important buttons. I've only seen one person use a towel to cover himself and the camera while filming. The best protection is prevention by knowing where not to be like in lanes or where paint will bounce off of a bunker.

I agree with this guy. I use sweatbands on the outside of my lens. I find using the rain gear cover to be cumbersome and often gets in the way of me getting a good shot because it fogs up and I cant see through my viewfinder.

Situational awareness always goes a long way. You lean where and where not to stand on a field to keep yourself in the best positions to get the shot you want while not getting you and your gear into too much trouble from the action on the field.

Tough, I'd say 35 but I started out with a wide lens. If youre willing to be social/in your face with your surroundings Id get a 50 though

Everyone always says you should have a 50 in your gearbag. Personally, I wish I had gone wider than a 50 for my first prime. But I prefer wider shots. Especially on a crop body.

If possible, get your hands on a 50 or a 35. Try it out (you can rent them for super cheap from borrowlenses.com) see what you like

crop, 35mm for casual shooting. full frame - 50mm

If you want a great lens check out the Tamron 17-50. Great for almost any walkaround stuff if you are close. If you want to do street stuff then 70-200 is the way to go (like single subject person stuff). But 17-50 is a good start.

Sigma 30 1.4 is a great lens.

I've really started to like the 50mm focal length on FF. its not to wide and its not too long. On a crop though...I might have to go with the 35

I'm gonna be getting a telephoto lens for my birthday. Has to be under $200, and it's for my Nikon D5100. I was thinking of a Nikkor 70-300mm, but I read that it doesn't work with the D5100 auto-focus.

I need the telephoto lens for spring and summer sports. Especially motocross, it's usually frowned upon or prohibited to stand just feet from the track where a kit lens is usable.
