I didn't say that playing on is immoral... it happens.. sometimes people need to get that extra ball out of their gun or run an extra couple feet... superstar mentality. but wiping a hit is like take the ball out of a receivers hands - you're saying they never caught it, you never got hit.
and no, the majority of competitive paintball players would NOT wipe a hit, which is evident in this thread as well as in real life (try it once in a while)
I watched Infamous play every game in Vegas from 10 feet away with my 300mm lense and I didn't see a single hit wiped... in fact the entire weekend I shot the pro USPL event in Vegas on the center court field I didn't see a single player wipe a hit. Does that mean it didn't happen? who knows - but I seriously doubt that with myself, the 6 other photographers, and 10+ refs, that no one missed a player wiping a hit.
NO... it does not happen as often as you pump boys think it does... and NO, it's not part of the game. Just because some little 12 year old agglets on the 'nation think it's cool to wipe hits doesn't make it a part of the game.
|
that's what I keep trying to say, is that wiping isn't just cheating, so much as it totally defies the point of the game - if you want to draw a comparison with football, it'd be like the coach carrying the ball into the endzone and trying to say it was a touchdown. Completely different from the way the game is supposed to be played. If you wipe, you're not really playing paintball, you're just shooting at people and running around. And it's 100% deliberate for the most part.

I think saying that it's like a football coach scoring is pretty far off. I would compare it to a running back getting knocked down but not wrapped up and despite his knee maybe tapping the ground, if the ref doesn't blow the whistle, he keeps running.

I'm amazed you feel that way Donut. Personally, I consider cheating as cheating whether you get caught or not, it's just more fun when you don't get caught

Overshooting with malicious intent is against the rules, therefore if you overshoot someone for cheating you are a henceforth a cheater and hypocrite.
That goes for the rest of you who think that overshooting someone (not just a few extra, but REALLY overshooting someone) is justifiable. You are cheaters, and you have no right to talk down to anyone who played on, as you will be punished by the referee if you get caught just like they will. So, for everyone who enjoyed posting about how much they overshoot cheaters, welcome to the club

so instead of cleaning up your own act and rising to their level, you try to drag them down to yours. good strategy.
as other people have said, wiping is beyond cheating. if you really wanted to make a football comparison, it'd be like getting tackled, getting up, telling the ref you never got tackled despite loads of people having seen it, and running the ball in and expecting to see 6 more points on the board.

Until the PSP puts a monetary penalty on wiping players are going to view it the same as any other penalty in the nfl/nba.
They need to fine for wiping like leagues fine for dirty hits and blatent unsportsmanlike conduct. Advertise a $1,000 fine if someone is caught wiping, and tada! - No more wiping.
Again, I hate wiping, but the PSP is encouraging it! They enable players to wipe with minor penalties.
IMO it is cheating, & it should be treated like cheating rather than a penatly... But to the PSP it is part of the game.

its like hockey, say tripping, its not allowed, and theres a chance you might not get seen by the ref and get away with it, but if you do your gonna get a penalty
so yeah it happens, its gonna keep happening, so it is a part of the game

sorry, but putting 3 balls in someone neck isn't breaking the rules. and that's exactly what I said
OVERSHOOTING DOES NOT WIN A TOURNAMENT. when there is monetary gain to be had... if I overshoot you that does not make me win the event. Get a clue.
Obviously I'm not going to sit there and shoot and shoot and shoot when they are in the deadbox... but I will put enough paint on them to make sure a ref sees they are out and I'm not giving them a second chance to wipe a hit. Also... I'm not opposed to putting a couple in their back as they walk off to let them know I saw what they did.

It saddens me that this is even a discussion :/
I miss paintball from years ago where if you wiped you were a douchebag plain and simple.

probably because wiping is the first thing that pops in your head when you get shot.
and UglyDuck - nothing has changed.. people wiped paint years ago too.
it's actually less common now - due to better paint fills that basically turn to wax upon impact (like XO) making it impossible to wipe, and bright bright fills that refs can easily see from across the field.
I'd love to see some of these kids talking about wiping try it at a REAL event, they'd be losing match after match because they can't hack it without cheating and cheating gets them huge penalties.

you know how many false penalties there are for wiping? Enough that the PSP would start losing teams fast if they handed down a 1000 dollar penalty every time someone got hit on their leg otb then dove into snake. They'd need cameras on each individual player with instant replay technology and refs with a lot more training.

Yes. It's a part of the game, just like in basketball, while a foul can cause a penalty, sometimes it can help more the team more than it hurts. On recball though, no way. That's just for fun, and most of the people you play with are going to be below tournament level, you don't need to wipe for an advantage on top of that.

It is not part of a game - it's cheating...
If you're playing monopoly with your friends, and while they are taking a break you give yourself an extra $5,000 - is that part of the game?
This is stupid, it's cheating and that's the end of it. Do it at your own risk.

Wow dumbest post I have ever seen. The psp should give monetary fines for wiping. When pro sports fine players it doesn't happen right after the incident. The act is reviewed on video and then decided by the commisioner. Also the players are being payed to play. Now once every paintball field is being covered with 6 cameras, and all the players are getting paid to play then you can suggest fines.
I mean I know I want to be subject to fines when I am paying to play, by a ref who is worn out and tired because he just pulled a 12 hour day and thinks he saw you wipe.

yes it is wrong, yes it is part of the game, no it shouldn't be part of the game, but it is.
Wiping isn't as common as most of you think, everyone talks likes wiping happens every game, and it is the Achilles heel of paintball. The problem isn't so much that people wipe. The problem is that everyone thinks everyone else is doing it, so they will too. In all reality, it is a fairly rare thing to have someone wipe, just because nowadays there are usually as many refs as people on the field, and lets not forget about the spectators, they watch, and they tell refs what's up.
the problem is that older players tell tale tail stories of a tourney they went to years ago, and everyone was cheating left and right, so younger people today think everyone is cheating.
