I've been racing the past 4 years, but now I'm at college in Baltimore, so I can't do it anymore. I miss it so much. I'll post up a few pics of me running gates. I have guards on my poles because I was too lazy to take them off when we swtich from GS to SL.
Gotta get my outside hand tucked in.

I'm looking into buying a pair of snow ski's. I live in texas, but every year my buddies and I drive up to colorado for a week. We are going in december, it will be my second time going, and I want to buy a pair, due to I can get them used for actually cheaper than renting.
So here is my question, I have NO CLUE on what size to get. I'm about 5'10" 170lbs. I am a pretty proficient(spelling?) ski'er for only going once. Tackled a black diamond baby! haha. So I want somthing that is at least an "Intermediate" level ski. How do I distinguish this?
Any help you guys could put in would be GREATLY appreciated.

Dibs on being on the council.
I've raced my entire life, went to Easterns this year and our state won for high school. (NH)
Went to Junior Olympics few years ago, but now I'm racing as a j2.
Some pics:
On the front page of Next Snow Search website. I won the racing part at the finals at Killington by like 6 seconds.
(Yes I'm wearing jeans, it was a joke, haha.
BWL's back when I was a j5.
Small rail at Waterville few years ago
3 off a decent jump at WV again
Me with my Eastern High School championship trophy
chase, not sure what sort of skiing goes on in Texas, like terrain wise, but for your size I'd go anywhere between 160-175ish.
Joga - I wouldn't be worried at all where your hands are. As long as you're driving forward on the front of the boot, and you're not sitting back, it won't matter where your hands are. Obviously having your hands out front will help you get more forward though in most cases.
Oh, and I ski at Pats Peak in NH. I race for Goffstown High School. I raced Volkls and Atomics every year until 2 years ago where I switched to Blizzard. Matter of fact I gotta run up to the factory soon and grab 2 pairs of SL skis :/

good to see this thread getting some actvity.
and as for the obSETHed...ended up not getting them. Went up to pro night at the local ski shop and talked to the reps from K2 and LINE. The LINE rep convinced me into getting a pair of Prophet 100's in 179. Lot more flex than the seth and more all mountain performance.

and as for you chase, I'd look into something in the range of 169. Pretty good size. The only reason i've stepped up to a 179 is because i'm 6'0" and fat...=-P
EDIT- Added ghostcell to council and joga to members.

Haha, NONE! We went to Breckenridge last year, and are looking at Crested Butte, CO this year. Not sure what terrain this would be considered.

A friend of mine called me and says he has a pair of 165's. He is my height and about the same size and build, ect. So I think I will go pick them up. Plus, being a family friend, I will get a smoking deal on them. Not sure what they are or anything, but they will work, and thats all I care about.

yeah, length is basically preference. I prefer a longer ski for more stability. If you can get a good deal, take um.

It really just depends what kind of ski it is.
My twin tips are 155 (Need new ones this year )
SL are 165
And GS are 181
I try and find 190ish for SG

Vist X-Peak.
I guess they're hand made in italy, and there is only 1 distributor in the states. I picked em up at a demo sale for 500 with bindings and they are PRISTINE.
$1700 retail
Specs on the ski:
176cm
131-77-111 sidecut
15m radius.
