He is tied by being paid by UA's booster club.
How would you feel if LSU boosters paid every SEC ref for whatever services they provide in the off season?
Also interesting that his official site was taken down after this issue was brought to the SEC office

From the SEC:
Quote:
1- The instant replay booth has three people inside, only one of which is the replay official and has any decision-making authority or role. This person makes the decision on any play under review. This position is not allowed to be a graduate of any of the participating schools in the game, just like the on-field officials. The instant replay official in this game was Gerald Hodges, who is not a graduate of either Alabama or LSU due to this policy.
2- The specific gentleman in the booth you inquired about served as the “communicator” in the Alabama-LSU game, not the replay official, which is clearly outlined on the flip card for the game. However, contrary to some false information out there, he is not a graduate of any SEC school. When he was an on-field official for many years, he was able to officiate any game in the SEC, including LSU and Alabama games, because of that fact.
3- Our officiating and replay rules and manuals are not for public dissemination, however, we do address things such as “the alma-mater” rule and where someone did or did not attend school when necessary to clear up any misunderstandings, which are quite common when an official’s name gets put out there and internet message board rumors begin.

LSU fans are turning into Auburn fans over something that Paul Finebaum said. Seeing as you're not an Alabama native, I'm not going to hold this against you, but Finebaum has no credibility. He starts controversy for ratings. The whole summer, he claimed to have a "packet" that contained evidence of UA cheating, none of which ever surfaced or was proven to be true. It's entertainment.

I'm aware of the SEC response they came up with after giving no comment for a few days after this came out. Burleson acted as an SEC official in that he graded the replay officials performance and is also available to give advice on calls in the booth.
Burleson was also present in the booth for this play earlier this year.

How come LSU fans didn't complain about the poor officiating after the LSU - Georgia game?

Yeah, but it came after the damage was already done.
Either way, just be a sad corndog for a couple weeks and stop cluttering mah threadz with whining.
Also, I don't know if I can recommend "The Fourth Kind" in good conscience. Pretty weird.

UGA was given just as much (actually more) opportunity to answer. They just aren't as good as LSU this year.
Everyone forgets that LSU kicked off 15 yards back just like uga had to. We just don't suck dick on kick coverage and they don't have someone like trindon on their return team. Our defense also isn't as crappy as theirs. That's why they lost.
And I think bama is the better team than LSU this year, but the difference in these calls is that UGA was given the opportunity to win/send it to OT. We weren't given that opportunity.

Georgia getting the same opportunity doesn't justify the bad call that altered the game in the first place. LSU gained a lot more than UGA from that call.
And Alabama won the game because they were better than LSU. The refs didn't hold LSU to six yards of offense in the fourth quarter. Complaining about the refs feels good but it won't take LSU's loss away. Just take it on the chin and hope that you guys can beat UA next year. And you won't.

Speaking of bad calls, we would have won last night if it wasn't for the review.
He fumbled on the one yard line, we recovered. They reviewed it and said the ball passed the goal line. It wasn't indesputable video evidence...
But, I'm proud of the way we played them. I think that was the only game all year they didn't score 40 points on.
We gave them their first fumble(s) of the year though too.
There is still a shot at us getting in a BCS game I guess. Cincy would have to run the tables and get into the NC, and we would have to win every game as well.

I ****ing hate t-shirt fans. This guy at this party last night was like "I'm a Gators fan and a Saints fan" He was talking about the Saints going undefeated, and I said if the Pats couldn't do it, the saints sure as hell aren't. He goes "haha that's funny because I'm a huge Patriots fan too"
Douchebag.

My ideal bowl matchups (yeah I know some of these can't happen, but they'd be fun matchups)
BCS National Championship: Florida v. Texas
Rose Bowl: Ohio St. v. Oregon
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: TCU v. Cincinnati
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Alabama v. USC
Fedex Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech v. Boise St.
I doubt USC will get a BCS game, but I'd love to see them play against a SEC team and get embarrassed. I'd like to see two of the other undefeateds who hopefully finish that way (TCU and Cinci) face each other. I struggled with pitting Boise and TCU against each other, but I just feel that TCU is a significantly better team all the way around, and a Boise - GT matchup would be a really fun offensive show. Had to make a choice between Alabama and Florida for the title game, I just think Florida is playing better right now and will win a close one in the SECCG. However whoever the loser of that game is I'd put in the Sugar Bowl against USC.

As long as it's Florida or Alabama vs. Texas I'll be happy, because either of those teams will destroy Texas.
As far as Tech goes I'm hoping for one of these:
Cotton Bowl vs. LSU
Holiday Bowl vs. USC
Alamo Bowl vs. Penn State
