Disney buys Lucasfilms and announces Star Wars Episode VII for 2015.

It's all over Twitter, but for those who haven't heard.

This is exciting news.

Why? Because George Lucas has done so well with the franchise the past 13 years? I'm excited for a Star Wars movie that he hasn't touched. Let some decent filmmakers have a crack at it.

I'm also crossing my fingers for a remastered Blu Ray release of the original trilogy without the special edition stuff.

with disney making the movie, i can already see how terrible its going to be.
First of all, you know its going to be Pg-13 or pg
they are going to replace lightsabers with sticks
and they will not show anyone getting cut in half by said stick sabers

No my opinion is, the franchise has been damaged enough already, please let it fade away and be a happy memory for nerds everywhere (for the most part). I wish no new movie is made. Can Disney do a better job than Lucas now? Yeah probably, but this is obviously just a cash grab so Disney can make their 4 billion back. Also expect 8 and 9 too.

What are you basing this on? All Star Wars movies are PG, first of all, so I don't see how that is a problem. Also, Disney owns Marvel and has backed all of the Marvel movies from Iron Man to the Avengers. They have proven that they can handle a huge franchise and make movies that both hardcore fans and the general public like.

Edit:

That's a valid argument. Except, Star Wars is not going away any time soon. Even if this is a cash grab (of course it is) that doesn't mean we won't get something good out of it.

The way I see it, it could be good but even if it's bad, at this point, what do we have to lose? The prequels already soured us to the franchise, I doubt anything they do with from here on out is going make it worse. I just think this has potential to revive it as something great.

The seventh movie, with a working title of "Episode 7," is set for release in 2015. Episodes 8 and 9 will follow. The new trilogy will carry the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia beyond "Return of the Jedi," the third film released and the sixth in the saga. After that, Disney plans a new "Star Wars" movie every two or three years. Lucas will serve as the creative consultant for the new movies.
how are you suppose to make a star wars movie when the galatic empire has fallen, vader is dead, and there are no remaining jedis alive besides luke skywalker

Dude, there are a **** load of books/games/comics that deal with post-original trilogy stuff. They can draw on any of that for inspiration.

Actually Leia is a jedi as well and later on she trains with Luke and becomes a Jedi Knight herself. Luke also forms the New Jedi Order so there are more Jedis.

Also in the following books, Palpatine is cloned. BLAH

Yea, there is also a blue guy who reforms the Empire, I think with that Palpatine clone. I dunno, **** gets pretty weird sometimes. Also, Chewbacca dies, but his nephew(?) is a jedi. So yea, wookie jedis....

**** with the Solo and Skywalker kids would be awesome. Or awful. I'm not really sure. Streamline it and keep it dark and it could be awesome. **** it up and make it lighter and it could be awful.

Actually I could see that being a decent cartoon series like Clone Wars.

Lets face it, having someone else play the 3 major characters played by someone else isnt going to happen. Thats like trying to have Sam Worthington play John McClane, or someone play Indy.

Hamill and Ford could in theory bring it back on screen. Carrie Fischer on the other hand... The only way I see this thing going down with the original cast is to do a CGI-voice over film. They can make it look solid and age characters properly.

You've got a lot of groundwork to lay down, Luke 's become a true Jedi and theres isnt really peace, the Empire is still around. They controlled hundreds of systems and had a ****load of ships. There are some great storylines that have been written, but the feel has to be right, sequels are very hard to write, I mean Return is the weakest of the three.

I think this isnt a great idea, but its guaranteed money for all involved. My thoughts, have we learned nothing from those "other movies"?

Just curious, but am I the only one who likes Return of the Jedi better than Empire Strikes Back? I always see people online saying that Empire is better.

A lot of people say ROTJ is when Star Wars fell off. I think it's not that bad but it is nowhere near the level of ESB or even SW.

Meh, I think return is better than A New Hope but Empire is definitely the best of all.

Return has some great aspects to it, but its portrayl of Han Solo falls short. The dynamic between the Emporer, Vader and Luke is really what I think makes the whole movie worthwhile.

It seems really, really presumptuous to announce the release of a movie that hasn't even begun to have a foundation designed. Giving a date this early will only lead to a) pushing the date back b) rushing to finish the movie or c) scrapping the project as a whole.

Star Wars will ALWAYS be bringing in revenue. Disney could just sit on the franchise for a decade or so, and it will break even on its purchase and be profiting relatively soon. Making a new film is bound to happen though, because it's a $300 million (at the most) investment that will bring in at least 200% profit.

Does it really matter if they've run out of stories? They'll just make a new, better story if that's the case. Regardless, it will probably be good. What a story is about isn't nearly as important as what happens in the story.

Apparently VII will be an "original story", so no Heir to The Empire or Clone Emporer storylines

Lord of the Rings is cooler than Star Wars anyway.

The real question is will anyone worth while direct it?
