you would need to call applecare to purchase 10.6. it's 19.99. The store does not carry it. you
may be able to borrow an external drive from the genius bar for the install, but dont hold your breath.

There was a replacement program for the mb air hinges, not sure if yours qualifies or if it's even still an active replacement...

Your best bet would be to take the computer to an AASP to see if it qualifies. Why? they want it to be bad and qualify so they can be paid by apple to fix it.
