Life line Program started under Regan, expanded by Clinton, cell phones added by George W... Funny how nobody cared till this year when all of a sudden Fox news turns it in to "Obamaphones"...

Please tell me how he does not pay enough for putting his money at risk in investments and happens to make money off of it.
Also when he was Governor he did not take a salary.
That Bastard.

You guys do realise that these people aren't stupid and they know tax codes...
Which is why you have guys like Steve Jobs who had a salary of $1 per year BUT he also had $1.2 Billion in Apple stocks. So he paid 35% income tax on his $1 salary and he paid 14% on his stock options worth $1.2 billion.
Mitt has done the same thing along with most CEO's. Low salary, lots of untaxed stock options, sell the stock, and you only pay capital gains taxes on your millions and its all completely legal.

Why is Obama suddenly buying votes when every other incumbent President has done it as well?

If everyone in America looked at just how much they pay in taxes, they would be ticked...
Here is a couple who make $100,000 a year, and they pay around $30,000 just in TAXES...
So the next time you hear "pay your fair share". Remember, you probably already pay 30% of your income in taxes currently, and yet, the government always needs MORE money.
|
They have a sweet deal. I probably pay more like 50 percent where I live. We earn just over the cusp on the max tax rate, then, because we make just a little too much we can't write off what most people write off. I swear I was richer when I made what they make.
The latest kicker is the IRS filed one of our returns for the wrong year. ( we've been fighting for 2 years) Their explanation is they lost the top page of an amended return for the previous year. Anyway after a the runaround, they wont back out incorrect return to replace with the correct numbers and deductions and they want 25k in addition to what we should have owed that year. If we don't pay they start garnishing. I seriously asked to be audited on the phone last night.
I never thought I'd have to call one of those cheesy tax lawyers on TV.
In any case I pay way more than my fair share, and much higher percentage than Romney. Do you think he'll make any changes? I doubt it. People like him benefit from the confusion.
I doubt he could do anything anyway. He couldn't even get rid of the mass turnpike authority. The whole state wanted that thing gone. I f any of you aren't aware it was a state agency that gave cushy jobs to well connected losers. Lightbulb changers made 200k/ year. I wish I was joking.
After he failed at the only thing I wanted him to do, he toured the country whining about the state... Even though he really lived in NH and had illegal aliens cutting his lawn.

How much did you pay in? I would bet you got the vast majority of your withholdings back.
Here's an interesting report prepared by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service and initially suppressed by Senate Republicans:

There is a reason that investments are taxed at a lower rate.

That's a smear. He employed a company that employed illegals without his knowledge. I doubt we expect Americans to be going around to their lanscapers, roofers, and construction workers who don't "look like 'mercuns" and demand they prove their citizenship.

Not a smear, it's a fact. He hired them again after getting caught the first time. I doubt he hired them because they were the most expensive.
Edit: I voted for him, so I can be annoued with him for being an absentee governor if I want.

Yes, but we've all employed illegals without knowing it by consuming various goods/services that are provided in part by them.
Perhaps Romney could have fired them after the first time, but he asked them not to and took them at their word that they would. I think he learned the lesson.
You live in Mass then?

Yeah, I was born in NH though. I saw Swerve play a few times in the NEPL years ago... I assume you were on that team? You guys won that year I think??
Sorry for the rant I'm just still fuming about the IRS situation. Nothing like that ever happens to people in government because they make calls and it gets fixed. 25k for something they admitted was their mistake!!!
I know illegal labor is everywhere. I just surprised he wasn't more careful. His heart wasn't in mass so it was obvious he was only gov. here so that he could run for prez. The 2nd time he got caught I said WTF is he thinking? Stuff like that is gold in a national campaign. If I was running for prez, and got caught once, one of my stupid kids would immediately be put on lawn duty.

Eh... what are you referring to here exactly?
I believe you're in the military, the military isn't exactly fiscally responsible.
I never plan on having children, so much of property tax and sales taxes are for other people, not myself. But of course my parents paid them for their taxes so I did make use of that I guess. Plus when I attended community college they receive much of their funding from the state as well. But I wouldn't call Arizona fiscally responsible either, or few of the states lately.

I don't think a lot of posters here understand how dividends are treated for tax purposes.

Not married. Actually just broke up with my GF of 6 years. Now, foreveralone.jpeg
I don't see how marriage would hurt my income though; my wife will make the same or more than me, or I won't even bother looking for a ring. Dual-income or gtfo.

Yeah **** that. A kid costs what, $250k on average to get to 18? Then college?
I'm not having kids until I'm at least 30, and she'll just have to get used to that thought. The pill works wonders, if you do it right.

Ha, yeah I just read that recently.
What's weird to me is that unless it's talking about what you pay in taxes or education costs besides college, the kid actually costs more than I do as an adult most years, if you go by average anyways.
Phoenix is pretty cheap though, so that helps. Plus I maintain my own, older vehicle, and live cheap overall.

It could also make them more crazy. Notice I said "more".
PS - **** paying for my children's college. They can do that themselves. Once they are 18, they are adults. No more free ride. Want to live at home? Sure. Pay rent, roomie.
