New Team getting into UWL
Hello, We are looking into competing at the UWL this year. We have competed in local woodsball tournaments and have place each time. We would like to join the UWL as it is the highest level of woodsball in the nation. I have tried to contact the UWL, sending 4 emails to the people listed and have not gotten a response. I have a few questions hoping you competitors could help me out.
-Which tournament would be be allowed to enter first or are we allowed to enter any?
-What are the restrictions on mechanical markers and is pneumatic triggers allowed(one pull, one shot)
-Is the use of Rotor's allowed if electronic markers are capped at 10bps?
I have read the FAQs on their site but not clear on the how divisions and rankings are determined.
The UWL has brought the best scenario teams to the top level and we would like a chance to play with the best.
Thanks, Viper

Hey Viper, I think you guys will not be disappointed if you join.
1) You can enter any of the regionals you would like. Nebraska is a huge event you guys should look into (July 21-22nd). Pennsylvania regional is August 4-5th.
2) The marker type restrictions vanished (except for Sniper requirements) with the removal of the Skills Division. Now players can use any marker they want, AS LONG AS IT CAPS AT 10bps. If you have a mech that cannot be capped, make sure your hopper is capped at 10bps. If you have a Tippmann setup with no electric hopper, just make sure it's not shooting over 10bps. The only accepted firing mode is semi-auto (unless you are a heavy which can shoot full auto). Yes, pneumags are allowed, but must be capped at 10bps.
3) Yes, you can use a Rotor. Gun has to be capped at 10bps.
4) There are two divisions: Pro and Tactical. Pro has the best. Tactical is everyone else. Scenario teams are encouraged to enter the Tactical Division in year 1.
Got more questions? Let us know.

Hoot gave you a pretty good break down Viper. We are in Nebraska and would love to have you guys come out to our event. There will be a thread popping up here pretty soon with information for traveling, ect.
I would like to welcome you to the league and encourage you to ask any questions you have right here. There are loads of guys who traffic here regularly who are more than happy to answer any questions you have. The Muddy Water Boys jumped into the league years back and have loved it. I am sure your team will have a similar experience.

Thank you for your quick responses. We just recieved a new field sponsor who is willing to help us train for the UWL by setting up our field in the correct layout. Is there anything different from the diagram posted on the UWL site? The sites states it is BYOP, is there a list of brands/color not allowed? What is the average boxes used per player in one event? How does the individual ranking work exactly?
My team has been wanting to join the UWL for the last few years and with our present roster, I know we are ready.

BYOP is pretty wide open. I haven't seen any paints or colors turned down yet. DDay was the only field that required field paint only, but they are no longer on the circuit for 2012.
As for the amount of paint your team will use, it just depends on your playing style. For some teams, 15 cases will last the weekend, others will require close to 30.
Individual rankings....to be honest I'm not sure. Don't pay much attention to them.
The fields setups will be dependent on the terrain. Typically, your flag distances will be the same every time, or close to it. Always 4 flags (2 home and 2 swing) plus a "hooch" (small cylinder) laying in the middle somewhere.

As far as your home field goes make your bunkers out of natural materials. AKA branches and sticks. The flags are all the same distance apart. Hooch is usually in the middle of the field. Player rankings are rarely updated and have been inacurate alot. So dont worry about them they are just bragging rights anyway.

This is all great information. A few more questions if I may.
Is there a pre-registration or do we just show up that day?
Are we allowed to go to Chicago in the Tactical Division or do we have to play prior games? It is because Chicago is the closest to us.
We are all very excited about the UWL and hope to make it a regular event. We have followed the league for some time and have watched alot of the best teams play one another on Youtube. This is truly the top of the woodsball tournament league and would be honored to participate.

There is pre registration. You can just go to chicago if thats the only event you want to attend. Or you can play every event. But you need 3 events to have a shot at the series title.

Talking to my team, we have also put NE on the radar too as it may not be too far away. We are setting up the field now and building flag stations. What is the "Hooch" or Small Cylinder supposed to be for. Also, how many teams usually participate in each event and how many does the finals brings out. Reading the UWL site, each team plays everyone in your bracket?

The hooch is worth 11 points. Just a bonus. Worth a hair more than owning a swing flag for an entire period.
Number of teams depends on the event. Nebraska had 12-14 last year I think?

Unfortunately the mech-only "Skills" division has been phased out for now. Not enough interest.
The difference between pro and tactical is generally the level of competition, and more specifically how many Pro/D1 ranked players are allowed on the roster. Generally, local scenario teams play in the tactical division for the first few years. Teams with a national presence and with some tournament background often prefer the Pro division.
