Im not sure how I missed this thread for so long but anyways heres what I have going. I am new to saltwater and this is my first tank so I wanted to do it right to avoid the discouragement of failure. I went with a 125 gal display tank and had a custom stand and canopy built by my brothers father in law. We tied in a fireplace I had here and went with cherry and mahogany to match other furniture in the room. I have it plumbed thru to my basement where I have a 55 gal sump. I also have a 55 gal premix tank for saltwater to be mixed and a 20 gal med tank up and running. I purchased a RO/DI system to filter my own water. Enough of the boring and onto the pics.

Well you dont need aquariums in hawaii, just grab a snorkle and the world is your aquarium. Plus there are snakeheads to fish up on some of the islands

Snorkel? I was a surface supplied diver and I hold master diver certs. I'll grab some tanks and spend time in my hundred billion gallon aquarium

My old boss, at a car dealership of all places, had his master dive certs. He cleaned boat hulls on weekends haha. Dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it, it pays pretty well from what he told me.

Almost as fun as reef diving, I'm told.

You will probably look at some jail time if you ship them here haha. I think they only have chevrons there which dont get crazy huge and really are not a threat to the hawaiian waters (not as much as large mouth bass at least but they devistate everything).

Man to think when I was a kid we bought "red snakeheads" at the local store for a few bucks. Little did we know those are giant snakehead fry. They jumped out of the tank and died as juvis though. So crazy that those were once common feeder fish. They would never make it through the winter in 95% of the country so its kind of dumb that they are banned

It's not. It's ****ing awful. I did it for a while and everything about it was horrible.

I got it cleaned up. Had to get timing on the lights figured out and the tank is very new yet. Just been up since the beginning of the year. Its been a cool project and a great learning experience.

I decided I'm going to keep my salt setup and take it with me to Hawaii. I figure Saltwater fish will be more common. I'm tempted to keep my 55 too.

What is that horned fish called again, I was looking at getting one a few years ago but did some reading and if I remember correctly they can get rather big and risk knocking liverock down and cracking your tank. Obviously like now at his size you don't have to worry about that but just a heads up.
