Right, he's also 13 years old. I say go for it. If noone tried anything because it was too hard we'd have nothing.

OP; find some kids from school who are interested in paintball as well. Play together and practice together. Once you have your communication and playing styles worked out. Watch some videos, go to some camps, etc and learn the fundamentals. I see plenty of fields advertising clinics and such. Sign up for your first tournament and go and have fun. Thats all you can do, have fun. The winning will come natural, you just have to practice practice practice.
