I just went o borders and bought "Simply Christian" by N.T. Wright, "The Case for a Creator" by Strobel, The Dawkins Delusion" by Mcgrath, and "God's Politics" by Jim Wallis.

They seemed interesting and I've been looking for a book that deals with Americanism and Christian Politicism. I like what he has to say so far. Strobel is always good. and Dawkins is one of those people who say that Religion is the evil of the world and McGrath writes a response to that book. Anyway, all good so far

About the political/christian "spin", why do you assume it is limited to "Americanism"? I came from a country outside the US and I can attest to basically the same political slants. Other than that, I think that the christian view of the Bible in America is commercialized far greater than anywhere else (where fame and fortune is considered the equivalent of God being pleased with you or basically modern day Pharisees), but similar views or spins on what it means to be a christian /christianity is, can be observed in Europe, and Asia, etc.
