I just got the macbook pro 15 inch 2.2 ghz processor with the plain screen no hi res **** unfortunately. questions lies here though, i want 8 GB's of ram (only have 4 at the moment) which do I buy? And also is a SSD much better than a 750 GB 5400 rpm drive? if so can i have the links to some that would fit into my macbook pro?

I am just now getting my phone to the point of making calls and functioning. Thanks Steve.

TL;DR: **** iTunes and the pricks to decided Jailbreaking meant asinine hoops.
Hey go to macrumors>com and they will tell you about new updates and what they are really for.... Just a suggestion for the next time... They'll come out with a new jailbreak here soon anyways...

Go here and use the scanner and it will tell you what you need:

http://www.crucial.com/mac/index.aspx

The 5400 rpm is the slowest drive you could've gotten. You either should have gotten the 7200rpm or a solid state (SSD will be the fastest).

yeah, ive noticed. thats all they have at best buy and this warranty is much better for me than apple care.

edit: how is crucial as far as ram goes? and for SSD's jesus christ theyre expensive. it was cheaper on apple.com for a 128 GB ssd. is there anywhere else i can look?

You'd want to look for 204 pin sticks running at least at 1333 MHz. You can get 1600 MHz RAM but it will be twice as expensive and only give you a handful of percentage points of overall system improvement. The general rule of thumb is that the more expensive the RAM, or any product really, you buy, the better it will perform. Budget RAM usually has higher timings (compare CAS latencies) which results in lower performance.

As for SSDs, you are going to spend A LOT of money if you want a high capacity drive and current generation speeds. Personally, I wouldn't look at anything below SATA III.

Jeeze, is there really a huge difference on how my computer will run with a 750 GB 5400 rpm drive compared to a 128 GB SSD drive? I plan on getting the ram though, 60 dollars is not bad what so ever.

also, little side note. my battery life has sucked for the atleast the first few charges. everytime i let it die and charge it back up again im seeing an improvement in battery life. is the the norm? right now im at 100% with only 4 hours remaining.

Ram for macbooks are specific. I found mine on Newegg.

As for differences in drives, SSD's are worthy of the price because the performance is insanely better than a standard drive. Opening programs can be instantaneous. However, if you don't mind the way your computer runs now, no point in shelling out all that money.

Don't upgrade. I plan on getting the air so it cones already but I'm paying the price and getting alot less room, but I figure I might as well invest In A external hd and start putting archives of movies and stuff there.

I want to buy a new computer but a friend told me to hold off because they're about release new macbook pros. I checked the macbook rumor site and it also said that a new cycle is coming up soon. However, another friend said the macbook pros were already released recently.

Are there new macbook pros coming soon? Idk what do do

Nice.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of muscle would you guys guess vBulletin 4.0 would require? I've skimmed their system requirements but it doesn't give any specific physical requirements. I'm wondering if a Mac Mini Server with a Thunderbolt Promise Pegasus 12TB RAID would suffice...

that RAID enclosure seems absurdly expensive.....

Thunderbolt is nice, but not worth...

*does some math*

...$1,150......

Are there alternative RAID setups?

For the storage space the overall cost seems great compared to a used XServe or a Mac Pro Server.
