People tilting hoppers - bad form.

Putting hand in front of mask - looked cool 2 years ago, people still try to do it though. Does nothing for performance.

you mean tilting the hopper when behind certain bunkers? thats not poor form, like with a doritio you must tilt your hopper in order to get it out of the oppenents view.

Hand if front of mask is because paint will almost always break on your lense in your mask, but not always on your padded gloves. This really isn't important at all unless you want to bust something crazy on the break and you just have to get there.

Even while snapping......not having your hopper as a target would be a plus......or is there some hidden HK karma bull**** that makes paintballs bounce off your hopper more than off of your forearm........

If I am missing something here........feel free to inform me.

Unless you've got some kind of degree in paintball technique or are some terribly experienced player (with video to back it) I can't imagine why I should listen to you tell me about "form"..?

i love the vid that DQ put out of palm beach viper's snake player (dont recall the name) he always has his hand over his face and DQ slow mo's him getting hit in the hand and the PBV player slides right on it getting rid of the hit, although takes a few more hits and ends up walking out anyways.

Although you're going to have to compensate slightly by exposing a little more of your elbow, a paintball is a lot more likely to break on your hopper than your elbow.

The hand in front of the face is a bounce/cheating thing - paint will almost always break on your mask, but it won't always break on gloves. Some people take it to another level and use it as a form of cheating. If they get shot in the hand while doing that, they just put that hand on the ground and drag it when they slide. By the time they bring that hand up to hold their gun, most if not all of the paint is gone. Experienced refs know to look for this and will usually catch you doing it, so I'd strongly recommend against it. You're not going to make friends by cheating and you're going to draw penalties frequently if you make it a habit.
best explanation. our team captain tells us it's the BEST way to attract a refs eye.

The best way? Not necessarily... though it is fairly easy to spot.

Never cover your face... As your breaking out you want to be able to look down field and check off props, if you can see where the other team is going you'll be able to talk to your guys...You'll also be able to see the lanes and adjust your slide

I've seen it countless times. Ref's are normally real good at catching the 2nd thing mentioned and pull people doing it. Though, once in a while, some get away with it.

The 1st thing mentioned, with the bounces, I don't understand how people can think that will work unless if they want to catch the paintball itself. There isn't much fat / cushiony material in hands, just bone, skin, blood and a bit of muscle.
whats softer a hand usually wearing a glove? or a mask lense?

any small chance of a bounce off of break is super helpful

to your second question...wear somewhat baggie gear but make sure its still breathable and easy to move in

edit:

remember as you are learning to do this to look and keep a good mindset of how the field has laid out

The hand in front of the mask is a bounce/wipe shield... if you take a hit on the arm while running, you can probably slide it off. If you take one on the lens, it's much harder to cheat.

That said, I do NOT condone cheating.
not trying to start any sort of argument but cheating is a widely accepted part of playing competitive paintball...

that was pelto.

and the hand in front of the face thing is a combo of style and hiding your hard parts as much as possible. paint is much more likely to bounce off your arm than your lens. you don't have to completely block your vision to do it just enough to block SOME of your mask.

to say tilting the hopper is bad form is simply poppy cock... its not really exposing that much more of your body plus id rather take the chance of getting shot in the arm than the hopper... just learn to not chicken wing fags.

dont tilt the hopper a ridiculous amount any way just a slight tilt is all you need and mainly for angled bunkers such as X's dorritos etc. etc.

A lens is harder then the lens in your mask (no Shi*) so they throw the hand in front of the face in hopes of taking a bounce.

stupid because

1 in tourneys people use a higher quality paint then normal.
2 your running blind

that being said, the likely hood of taking the bounce is minimal

they do this so no one can take a picture of them,
that is until after the game the photographers come up
and the players sign a release and contract for pictures
then they put the hand down

Over the years I have heard many people call some of my on field habits stupid, but I think as long as it works out for you it doesn't matter. I have seen some great players who have seemingly ridiculous/bad habits such as the aforementioned one, but yet these players do well none the less so clearly it must be working for them.

With the hand in front of the mask it makes it so if you get shot in the hand it is very easy to dive therefore wiping with the turf/grass
