Trying to get some cash for a new vehicle

My situation is; full-time college student, work a part time job 10 hours a week, has a vehicle that might get roughly 5k trade-in and going for a 21k vehicle. I won't be able to make monthly payments during the school year at the current rate so I'll need to make a large down-payment. I'm not in a rush to do buy the car but would like it before the start of next school year. What are some good jobs that require work on weekends only, and are those data-entry jobs bs?

Oh and during the summer, I'll definitely be able to make the payments which are roughly 400 a month.

Why do you need a 21k car right now that you can't really afford? Whats wrong with your current car?

160k miles,14 mpg,80 mile daily commute

and just found out that the 400 a month is with 0 down-payment over 60month period, just added in my expected down payment, roughly 10k,I have 5k and the expected sell price of my truck which is roughly 4-5k. So monthly payment would be 220 which I can make. Should I go for it? Parents are paying for insurance until I'm done with school and "might" help with car payments.

so you're looking to save about $5 in gas every day by spending roughly $400 a month on car payments?

I really don't think buying a new car as a college student is prudent

Don't buy things you can't afford. You can get a gas efficient car that you'd be more than happy with for 4-10k.

Buying the new car would increase my gas mileage by a multiple of 2.5

In a week, six trips,I go through 34 gallons of gas if I make no side-trips.
With the new vehicle I would go through 12 saving roughly 72.60 (at $3.30 lol) a week and over a month save $326. This also takes away some of the worries of a high-mileage vehicle. Oh,and the payment is 220 a month.

I payed cash for my current vehicle from money earned in summers and during the school year

I already have a 5k down-payment saved up. Also I don't pay any tuition because of scholarships. 85% of money I make is disposable income.

if your goal is gas savings, buy a 5 or 6 year old civic/corolla.

Another person creating the 0% savings rate in America. Why not just use all the credit available to you and go for a 30k$ car? To bad those days have ended. I suggest you start saving some of that coin for later instead of blowing it on a car that will lose a good majority of its value once you drive it off the lot.
But hey, roll your eyes to the people who you came to for advice.
