I would still only shoot about 500 rounds in a day. Having to carry the extra paint around would slow me down. At my last outing, I had a case of extra paint that I wanted to use up. At the end of the day I didn't even get through a bag...I really tried.

I would shoot a little more.. but if everyone is just shooting everything up I probably wouldnt play...
It takes the skill out of the game and it would just be paint being flung....

$20 for all day air/paint/field fees? As long as I was playing other experienced players, my gun's shot counter would roll-over.

I'd be a little looser, but i can't imagine i'd shoot that much more than a case. I'd be very inclined to build something sick, with a 2 barrels, haha, i guess

OK, so now I'd like you to look further into your crystal ball. If paint and air were free at every field and owners put no restrictions on how much paint players shot, would we have more people playing paintball on any given Saturday or Sunday? Would paintball explode and become really popular?

No way. Too many paintballs flying at your head at the same time is not fun.

Nope. Paintball would die.
Everyone likes to shoot a LOT but no one likes to get hit a lot...
It would be like God mode on a computer game. Fun for a little bit but then it would get boring pretty quick.

Hope you guys realize what horizon's trying to do with this thread.....
I don't like or agree with overpriced paint at FPO fields, but his business model does seem to be working.

Would I shoot more? Most likely. I'm not sure how much, but it would probably be more.
If every field was setup the way you proposed, I'm not sure if it would give paintball growth. I disagree that paintball would die completely. With the wide proliferation of electronic paintball guns and hoppers, you have the issue of people getting shot at too much. Then again, this is assuming everybody has a setup capable of shooting large amounts of paint every game and that there are no fire rate restrictions, or fair separation of players.
Also, its important to take into account that not all experienced players like tearing through inexperienced players again and again.

I think with current ROF, yes, it would not be fun. But if you limited the ROF to somewhere between 5 and 10 BPS, then it would be a whole new game.

I don't know if only people with expensive markers would still play because they have fast RoF. I have a double-trigger mech Spyder and a VL200 shake and bake but you can still get a pretty good RoF. Somewhere in the ballpark of 5-7 bps. You don't need a $1000 setup to shoot fast.
However, this would definitely weaken if not kill the sport.

Sure, although "realize" is a rather weak word for my position. I'd lean more towards "endorse".
Some people think through things readily and can see a lot of scenarios whenever they consider something...but those people are far too rare. Most people seem to need a couple pointed (and honestly, obvious) questions before they maybe clue in to what's being said.

I do believe that it would be beneficial if we could remove the cost of paint from the "can I afford to play today" equation, but it's pretty obvious that free paint wouldn't be the way to do it.
Finding a way to do that, now that's the tricky part.

I would want to rip on it but wouldn't really have a chance as you'd probably have to stay stucked cause some other guys would be ripping a case of paint at your bunker and laughing maniacally the whole game.

I think the cure would be to charge $150+ for a case of paint

How about free paint for renters with no volume limitations in renter only games. Renters would be shooting typical rental markers like Tippmann 98's (most renters seem to be able to shoot about 5-6 bps with those) but they can shoot as many paintballs as they want and are able. Would that play out favorably for building participation numbers in our industry?

I like that. That would put renters on a more even scale with the addicts. The only problem is people like me, who have their own guns but not a lot of cash and not nice guns at all, would get screwed. I do think that would help the sport more though.

OK, I don't know if it would *really* work...but I would *love* to play on a day like that to see what it was like.

OK, but you're not a renter. Looking at it from Sam and Sally Renter's viewpoint..are Sam and Sally likely to love it and most importantly, are they going to come back for more?
It would be only renters, but we all know renters come in all shapes and sizes (and attitudes). Are the renters that will be shooting 2 or 3 cases in 4 hours going to have a negative affect on the other renters? Or are there enough renters that will love shooting and getting shot at by 2 or 3 cases, that it will help participation overall? Basically it's going to produce a fairly extreme environment on a rental only field, but a relatively cheap one. Is that going to help or hinder?
