NME upgrade front block / LPR / HPR

Hey guys!

****With many thanks to tjs0349 and Tim Foolery, I finally was able to swap out the stock front block, LPR, and HPR on the NME. Without their patience and knowledge, I would never have been able to finish this project *****

The front block I used is from a 2k2 Timmy. The neck that goes into the frame had to be sanded in order to fit in the NME frame.
The hole also had to be tapped in order for the frame screw to hold the front block securely.
Also had to widen the hole on the frame to allign the holes of the frame and the front block. Just a few seconds on the dremel and it fit like a charm.

Here is how they fit into the frame:

Now here are the before and after pics. Please be kind

Haven't tested her out yet because I don't have teflon tape at the moment to secure the gauge to the front block.

Also, I have to relocate the macroline fitting to the other side of the HPR. You can't tell in the pic, but it is loosened just to show how it would be connected. If tightened all the way, the macroline fitting would actually be facing towards the front of the marker.

Other than that, I think I think/hope all works well when I air her up.

Thanks again for the fun project!!!

Looks good! Use a drop or two of blue Lotctite. Works better than the tape imho.

You won't be able to use the hole on the other side of the HPR. It's a guage hole only. One side is for the macroline fitting and one side is for a guage. Use an oring or two on top of the HPR to fill the gap and get your macroline in the place you want it.

Looks really nice!

Oh one other suggestion. Dye your bolt black with some Rit Dye. It's really easy to do and it looks really nice when the bolt matches the color scheme of the marker.

Oh ok, will stop by the local PB shop for some o-rings to fill the gap for the HPR.
Would a #29 or #83 o-ring be sufficient? Or would I need a wider and flatter o-ring?

I've read the tutorial on that and was considering it. Does it affect the delrin in any way? Will it be less slippery?

Probably the same size as the oring on the top of the reg above the threads. Just take it with you and try a couple out. The o-ring doesn't need to seal anything, it's just going to be a spacer. The oring above the threads on the HPR will still be the seal.

It doesn't affect the bolt in any way other than changing the color. I've done four or five of them. Some people are worried about melting the bolt. You can't get the water on your stove top hot enough to damage it in anyway. The melting point of Delrin is much higher than what you can get a pan of boiling water up to.

When dying, the hoter the water the better. With boiling water it will take just a couple of minutes to get your bolt dark black. Then rinse it off and drop it in some ice water for a few minutes to cool it off and help the dye set. Despite what some tutorials say, you don't have to stick it in the freezer or anything like that. Ice water for a couple of minutes does the trick. After that, dry the bolt off and you are good to go. Shouldn't take you more than 15 or 20 minutes from start to finish and most of that time is waiting for the water to boil.

I'm glad your conversion went so well. That is just as clean as any I've ever done. Good job! I should frequent these forums more.

Thank you! I'm really glad it went well with just a few tweaks here and there. As of this moment it is working really well but I have just test fired a few rounds. Haven't gotten a chance to take it out in a game.

Also thank you for the suggested upgrades! I'm seriously considering 2k5'ing it even more by getting the ram sleeve, ram, cap, and bolt. That might not be for at least 1-2 months though

I guess I just don't want to be finished with this project yet.

Still trying to fine tune the marker at this point as I picked up a small handheld chrono.
Will start to play with balancing the dwell, lpr & hpr pressures.

I, however, have a minor issue. As I'm firing with the eyes on, it will fire 2-3 times then won't. I have to turn the eyes off in order to fire more paintballs. This has happened the last 4 times I tried out the chrono.

Possibly the eyes are bad? Also check the connection to the board. Sometimes the connector comes partly out and causes intermittent problems.

Looking to change replace the internals with a 2k5 ram sleeve and eigenram.

I see I just missed your 2k5 sleeve. When I first skimmed your post, I didn't see it. I just saw it today and it was already sold

Its a 2k2 sleeve, I did not posted right. But I got an Empire Pressure Balance Sleeve for sale if you want. I actually got another red one that I am really thinking about putting into my black/red NME. If you even get around to swapping your sleeve and internals, post some pictures of the project.

I checked the connections and still doing it.
I'm beginning to think it's the paint as I tested a DP fusion yesterday and I had to turn the eyes off as well in order for me to fire.
I just bought a cheap case of WGP addiction balls and many of them just bounce off or leave no paint on a tree 20ft away. I couldn't even break them with my fingers

Before you begin to quetion the eyes I would suggest you tune your bolt placement. If you don't know how to then PM me.

Do you mean the adjustable ram cap?
I currently have the bolt positioned so that just a little bit (less than 1/16in) is coming out when seen from the top of the feedneck.

It seems that the Necro ram is available again.
Is there a significant difference between this ram and the lurker?

Thanks!

Not really... The Eigenram is proven and lurker has been around and isn't going anywhere. The guy that is making the NecroRam is also a good guy, but he had some issues (I don't know what) that caused him to drop off of the forums and stop supporting it. He is apparently only doing one more run of rams and then he is done again. At least that's the story over on intimidatorowners.com.

I have a necroram for one of my Timmy's and I find it to be the same as the eigenram. Consiering that Lurker has a proven track record of being around for years and providing good support of his product, I would stick with his ram.

Thanks, I will stick with the eigenram once again
Now I'm basically just waiting for the 2k5 sleeve to come and get closer to the finished product. Might also have to get the barbs from crankwalk because it seems that the barbs on the NME have different threads than the timmys (at least for the 2k2). Hopefully the 2k5 will have larger threads and will fit the NME barbs.

The 2k2 and 2k5 Timmy barbs are the same size and have the same threads.

You will need Timmy barbs for the Timmy front block and ram sleeve. Three barbs total (one front block, two ram sleeve).

Question about regulators:
I have only seen the 2-liter and sidewinders frequently here on the nation, but not the AKA SST.

It's been mentioned and briefly discussed but AKA doesn't even have it on its own site. There is no review of it in PBreview as well. Did it not do so well?
Is the sidewinder better than this newer reg?

Just curious...

The SST is over a year old at this point. I've heard that it was discontinued which may explain why it's not on AKAs web site. You could try sending AKA an e-mail to find out.

The SST was a mid preassure reg (100 - 400 psi). I think they were trying to fill a niche with it that wasn't really there and may explain why they would discontinue it so quickly. The sidewinder is the oldest reg and design in the AKA family. The 2-liter dual plus is the newest and comes with a spring that allows it to work with low or hi preassure markers.

I personally would stay with a 2-liter reg. Best reg available in my opinoin. Offers faster recharge rates than the sidewinder and it's very consistent. I have one on my Vice and it's amazing.

Here are some links I could find about it:
