For Back Players

thank you aaron, and everyone pretty much has been nailing it on the head, back players are essential, vital, and severely important to a team who wants to win a championship, look at dynasty, strange, and infamous, many of the pros, you hear their back guys yelling positions, field calls, and everything they can think of to keep their teammates alive. and to anyone who says a back guy is useless, get out there and do it yourself and then say something

I have noticed that the thread has slightly changed. It isn't that anyone says they are useless, it's just that people dont see them as having an important role, mainly because they aren't looked at

man it doesnt matter how useful u look on the field. who cares what other people think. just do ur job on the field and make sure u r watching over ur teammates. that is it, the only people u have to care about what they r thinking is ur teammates if they come off the field saying thanks for covering my *** on that runthrew then u were useful. that is what matters

I agree. But we are going into a new age. Paintball is being featured on TV and everyone wants to see "cool stuff"

Dumping 10 pods of paint doesn't "look cool"

So what are people gonna think?

most people dont start as a back center guy*(excluding the naturally large lineman among us) you have never played another position? If you havent go play them the man in home should know how to play everywhere else on the field before he earns the right to turn shoot and take that short walk to his primary.

If you're looking to be a great back player and get a little credit for it, that's who you're looking at. If you have access watch all the XSV games from this years HB event, especially him closing out games on Sunday. Skilled gunfighter, slow methodical play, knew all the angles and all the blind spots.

But the credit he gets isn't for flash, the guy is lightning fast, but he uses a lot of restraint to move at a deliberate pace.

He controls the game, controls the tempo, makes smart moves and plays off the crowd.

perfectly said lee. im 6'5 and its tough to play anywhere but back, but i play all over cuz i am fast. but learn a new spot, its fairly easy, just practice and work on it, and then it will come to you. you seem more worried about lookin good than playing good. to hell with the cameras. only camera you need is mental camera surveying the field and your opponents

Paintball isnt entering a new age. The problem with getting paintball on tv isnt that back players look boring, its that everyone looks boring, because the majority of time ur sitting in a bunker.

I know, but think about this. In the end, we all know that paintballing for a living would be great. And look at football or basketball for example. The ones who get all of the money and all of the publicity are the quarterbacks of the team, the point gaurd gets money, but nothing like Kobe

I don't play back typically. I'm usually a mid insert/front player. This past tournament weekend though, I had a chance to play back center. I have to say. Your job as a back center is hectic.

Essentially, I found you have 3 key tasks (which all have to be done simultaneously):
-Communicate what you see and hear to your teammates
-Keep your opponent in their bunkers (possibly looking a certain way)
-Keep your opponent out of key bunkers

If at any point you stop yelling, shooting, or looking, you're allowing the opponent to gain ground on you. Now granted it's not possible to see everything and control everything from one spot. But you have to try damn hard to supplement control as best as you can.

One of our back players (who is one of the best I've played with) is a prime example of what a back player should be. He's a big guy (nicknamed "Tank"), and we've recently joked about his "auto-turret" style of play, which works DAMN well for us. From the sidelines, he's the guy you hear yelling over anyone else, you will NOT see him with his gun down ever. He will pound bunkers all day long and let us know where people are. The guy is a machine and more than just a few games, it has been key to victory.

The lineman and drummer analogies are perfect. You usually don't notice when they do well but you ALWAYS notice when they do poorly. That's just the life of a typical back player.

well said alvecchio. sounds like you're more for the glam than game aaron.

i never worry about anything other than my team. you're worrying about something that is uncontrollable. tv or no tv time for ballers. the front guys will get the glam but we all know why they get the glam. cuz of guys like us.

I'm not in it for the glam atall, I was just curious what other people thought, but well said.
