Official Bunker Thread

After seeing thread, upon thread, upon thread, of requests about bunker names and info, I decided to try and put together a loose guide so that there might be fewer threads.

Bunker Names

Other names may refer to these same types of bunkers, this is just a rough guide. These terms come from Sup Air, user input, and what I have heard the bunker called at some point or another. If I forgot any names, please inform me and I will edit the post to include them.

Cylinder, Can, Beer Can, Rolly, Pop Can, Soda Can, Fingers (narrow tall ones, pic currently unavailable), Stubby

Brick, Block, Juicebox

Beam

Dorito, Teabag

Temple, Aztech

Wing, Triangle, Nacho

Cube, TV

Half Moon, Taco

Cone

Snake

X

Carwash

Wedge, Dollhouse

Tombstone

Cross, Mini-X

Horeshoes, U, Rainbow

Burger, Mothership

Bumper, Carwash (new)

Special Bunker Arrangements

These special arrangements of bunkers usually occur only once on a field, are usually key places to hold during a game, and are usually made up of more than just one bunker.

Modul'R, Rocket, Submarine

Medusa

Hot Wings

Octopus

Zipper, Snake, Great Wall of China

Diamond, Castle, Fort

Giant Castle, Castle, Giant Fort, Fort

Bunker Specifics

When calling a bunker, it is easy to get several in the same area confused. For instance, you may say "Left 40 Can", but there could be more than one can at the left 40. To make things more specific, there are a few things that you can yell you help your team.

Laydown: This is any type of bunker laying on its side, that is best played close to the ground. Examples of these include beams, and cans and large bricks laid on their sides.
Stand Up: This is any type of bunker standing on end, that is best played in an upright stance. Examples include cans, large bricks, and temples.

Bunker Locations

When playing it is important to be able to locate bunkers which opponents are hiding behind. The easiest way to do this is to name the type of bunker they are in, and its location on the field. The following diagram should help you to understand the basics of bunker location.

Left: Any bunker in the left third of the field (left of the red line).
Right: Any bunker in the right third of the field (right of the yellow line).
Center: Any bunker in the center third of the field (in between the red, and yellow lines).
Back: Any bunker located at the far end of the field (behind the opponents 10).
50, 40, 30, etc.: Any bunker located along that specific "yard line", 50 being the center of the field.

Now if you are the pink square, see if you can name the bunker that is circled. Some are difficult to tell what they are, but if you get the basic location right, you are headed in a good direction. Answers are at the end.

Conclusion

Hopefully this short explanation helped a little. Practice makes perfect, so don't feel bad if you still haven't grasped the concept. The fact that you are interested shows that you are serious about the sport, which is a very good thing. Learning bunkers is a very important part of the game, no matter what position you play. Remember, you will probably forget the names of some bunkers the first few times you play. Don't feel bad! Let your team mates know where the opponent is, no matter how silly it is. Many times, you will hear a call such as "He's in the triangle thing in the back to the left." That still gets the point across, and its MUCH better than saying nothing at all. Feel free to post any questions, comments, or reccomendations. Constructive criticism only please . And remember, the most important thing is that you have fun, and stay safe while playing!

#1. Back Left Dorito
#2. Right 50 Laydown Beam
#3. Center 50 X

I guess we don't need trees/fingers considering they're not used anymore if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure the NXL used them last year though.

We call the "half-moon" a taco since it's in the shape of a hard shelled taco at my field, might wanna add that. It looks like you're missing a bumper, too ("carwash"). Other than that...
