the website has gotten crazy boring? there used to be maps, indepth explainations, and tons of stuff i could print out a 5-6 page packet and hand it to friends to get people to come with. seems like i wont be able to do it this year unless i am just blind and cant find everything?

You will not start seeing that until after the 1st of the year once the Staff Meetings start up. Right now it's about recruiting.

fair enough.
i was trying to get a bunch of people to come.

i am really considering camping this year, but i am not sure how well that would work. does anyone know if the showers are any good?
my only problem with camping would be that.

We stayed in a hotel for the last few years so i am not sure how the weather was at night is it bearable or is it still really warm at night?

Field conditions

Hello,

There are two shower/restroom facilities on site.
One (older) is located at the south end of the vendor
area. Word is they may be looking to re-model or
replace that one. The second building is across
the street from Commonwealth's encampment.
It features approx 6 shower stalls and 4-5 toilets.
Depending on when you look to use it, there is hot
water. Wait till it gets busy and all you'll find is
cold water. That said, who's to complain when it's
90 degrees. Water does smell like sulfer, but once
you dry off smell goes away, besides it helps keep
the bugs from causing problems.

Evenings are OK and depending on which group you
are looking to join, you might find one which has a
pool available. Last year those included CEF and the
2nd Armor Group. Seriously, they got local fire dept
to bring tanker to fill the pools with city water. There
are also a number of units who have someone doing
the cooking. All you have to do is chip in a few bucks
a day and they'll feed you breakfast and dinner. We
also have one unit which operates a full blown bar for
their member's only!

Hope this answers your questions, but if not please
feel free to give my office a call. I can be reached at
just about any time between 0600-2000hrs, that's
between 6 AM and 8 PM eastern time.

Sincerely,

D-Day 2012

When people ask what sets D-Day apart from other PB
Big Games or Scenarios, I've found that it's hard to give
an answer they can relate to. Either they think D-Day
is some sort of Army Boot Camp, or it's no different than
the events they've already gone to.

In order to try and clarify things, I'm going to post some
photos as well as a few YouTube clips, in the hope that
you'll be able to grasp the difference.

For starters here's a brief clip featuring a view of what
things inside the building which we built looks like. Called
the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) this structure holds
the Allied Army's radios, as well as our computers. We
use these to maintain contact with our forces (1,700+),
who are deployed over close to 800 acres.

Next are several photos which illustrate just a few of the
war torn looking bunkers and structures players encounter
on the D-Day Park field.

Here's a shot of the swimming pool which belongs to our
2nd Armor Group. Just one of the perks which comes from
being a member of that unit.

Here's a shot of the Allied Army's Staff, who led the 1,700+ players, which taken during a staff meeting in the TOC.

One of the two British APCs owned by Dewayne

Structures located in CAEN, a key objective for both sides.

2010 FIELD MAP

Anti-tank vehicle used by 899th 'Blackcat' TDB unit during 2011 D-Day

Well that's about it for now. Stay tuned for more details/photos and
thanks for taking the time to check out this thread.

Sincerely,

I can sure relate to that. I first went to D-Day back
in 2002 and served as a cameraman for a guy who
made a video tape. I came back in 2006 to help
Eric Engler. Then starting in 2007 I've been back
each year since as a member of the Allied Staff.
I also created the Stars and Stripes Newspaper,
which every player gets a free copy of, as well as
helped organized the Allied OSS element, which
today is comprised almost entirely of active duty
and retired military personnel.

Hope you're able to make it back again and that you'll
find it's even better than it was the last time.

Sincerely,

I am posting this publicly in case others have a similar question.

You can certainly play; the minimum age is ten years. The only restriction is that you cannot be in a special forces unit. The game is not broken down into teams, but is broken down German vs. Allies. Each side has several units. Some units are generally referred to as "beach units" because they start on one of the three beaches and remain dedicated to that area until the beach falls or the beach closes, usually just after noon. The game is not over for the players in those units; they will be assigned secondary missions or objectives for the remainder of the day. Both sides, German and Allied, usually recommend that first-time players go into a beach unit for their first year to become accustomed to the mechanics and the scope of the game. The special forces units have very demanding tasks on sometimes remote areas of the field that are not well suited for first-year or younger players.

If you are going German, I recommend you look into the 716th Infantrie which defends Sword Beach against some of the Commonwealth. If you want to go Allied, look into the First Infantry Division which can always use enthusiastic young players to fight up the Atlantic Wall on Omaha Beach.

Andy, there is one major difference that I know you and I can both relate to that sets OK D-Day apart from all other paintball games. The command staffs on both sides work literally year round to make sure the players have the best time possible. Not a lot of players know how much work each command staff puts into pulling off this game each year, but it is truly a labor of love.

Custer,

Thanks for outlining how the game is set up and for also
noting how much time both side's staff members spend to
insure everyone has a great time.

If 'denverpb' wants to check out the various options which
are open to him as a member of either side, they ought to
click this link -http://www.ddaypark.com Once there they'll
want to look at the toolbar for "Events and Registration."
Once they've done that they'll scroll down and clcik on the
link which reads - 'Oklahoma D-Day' and under that heading
they'll see two options, 'More Info' & 'Register Online.' Once
they click 'Register Online' they'll be asked to answer some
questions, as well provide their credit card details. It's only
at that point that they'll be asked to select which unit they
want to join.

With all this in mind I'd suggest that before they randomly
pick a unit, that they FIRST go to the D-Day Forum area, where
they'll find a section which lists ALL of the German and Allied
units. They'll also be able to ask questions, like how old do
I have to be to join the Rangers, German Airborne, etc.

If this reply hasn't answered your questions, please feel
free to give my office a call, but just keep in mind, I actually
work on behalf of the ALLIED ARMY...

Sincerely,

The simplist way would be to pick up your phone and call
them. They're open 7 days a week and their number is
(918) 666-3411. Remember, they're located in Oklahoma,
which is in the Central time zone. When you reach them,
ask for Peggy, she's the one who handles registrations.

Can you explain this rule to me?

Quote:
Fortifying Bunkers – During game week, all work on the field must be supervised by a red shirt and ap-proved by the staff and appropriate officers from both sides. Any work done by players on the field must be completed no later than the end of the day on Wednesday and all changes to the field will CEASE after that.

we are allowed to fortify bunkers?
how do we go about doing this and when are we allowed to do so?

and is this really relevant to allies as when i was there it seemed like we were charging forward the whole game untill omaha which took a while to take.

Bunker building

I guess you didn't hear, this past June they took
Omaha in record time. As for building up bunkers,
the Germans do most of that, but there's nothing
stopping anyone from lending a hand, so long as
they follow the rules noted above.

The one area that the allies look to improve is Ste
mere Eglise, which starts out being held by the
French.

Sincerely,

That depends on your outlook. OK D-Day evolves and plays differently each year. This past year, the Allies spent quite a bit of the day dug in and defending Colleville as well as being on the defense in the closing phases of The Valley fight. Fortifications that make an area difficult for the Allies to take make it equally difficult for the Germans to retake.

Different leaders on both sides try to organize work weekends at the field. Those dates are discussed on the D-Day Forum.

The rule you quote is designed for multiple reasons; to ensure the bunkers are safe for game play. The field staff survey the field before game week to look for dangers. Early in the week, any bunker work MUST be approved by game staff. After Wednesday of Game Week, no field modifications are allowed in order to prevent shenanigans.

In addition, every year the field owner has made improvements to the field to improve game play and game flow. Some of these improvements are listed in this thread. They are what makes it so much fun to play at D-Day....truely a unique field.

Agreed. Though I rock an atomix timmy.

Hell, "speedball" guns usually work better than anything made for woodsball anyway.
