is god really as forgiving as people say?
lately ive been into some things that arent exactly smiled upon by society/god. A few drugs alot to drink and a decent amount of violence. I still go to church here and there and i have been to confession, but i still dont believe im gonna make it to heaven. I feel like god isn't as forgiving as everyone assumes and only the pure are allowed in heaven. anyone understand where im comming from? like god isnt looking for scumbags turned saints hes looking for the real live by the lord type.
i'd like to make a edit: im not into a single religion i beleive god is made up of parts of all religions like he has a certain aspect each religion shows. i go to a christian church and my coffessions have all been made at a christian church but im not a christian.

i don't know which God you're talking about.

well the prophets were chosen for the reason of them being scumbags because thats what they were up until they met christ and thats when they started a new chapter in their life

this sums it up. ALL people are sinners. there isnt levels of sin. if you're forgiven for one sin, you'er forgiven for all sin.

God forgives you if you pray for forgiveness and honestly mean it. Praying for forgiveness just to make yourself feel better, then doing whatever sin you are committing again, then that isnt right.
Yes, God will forgive you for all sins you commit, he is a loving, caring God, and understands what your life is like and why you make the choices you make

As long as you true in your wish for forgiveness then you will receive it. Of course, since "sin" is defined by men (I mean we have the 10 commandments, but everything else, and even a few of the 10 commandments, are up to interpretations as far as severity, punishment, and the state of sin go) I don't think that necessarily everything needs to be forgiven. If one is ignorant of something they have done then I do not believe that they will be condemned for ignorance. Only if someone has the intent to do evil will they need to be forgiven.
Of course I also believe that God does not condemn human souls to an eternity of seperation (aka hell - there is no physical heaven or hell, they are states of mind..in a way) but only man can condemn himself to such seperation through the arrogance of his ways.

SO you do not believe the exact teaching of "Jesus Christ", but you are a Christian?

I'm the same way. Jesus Christ did not teach a religion, he taught a way of life. I dislike religions in general - I'm spiritual but not religious. Hell, I hate it when people pray to Jesus - you should be praying to God. (IMO Jesus is only the physical extension and manifestation of God, not his actual son, and we should be praying to God.)
Also, when I read the Bible - which isn't often - I'm extremely wary of what I am reading. There is no way to know how many times the script has been changed and manipulated to suit the churches will throughout the ages and therefore it is no longer reliable to me.

I believe that we have a loving God. Everyone sins, like small kids. we want cookies, so we take them. As the parent, God is hurt and doesn't like what you have done, but he will forgive you if you ask.
In him we have a redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. ~Ephesians 1:7
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them." ~Mark 3:28
"I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more," says the Lord ~Hebrews 8:12

So a Muslim who does good works all day is going to heaven? Or did you leave out the part where you also have to accept Jesus as lord and savior?

He said works AREN'T what save us so a Muslim's works mean nothing. He didn't leave anything out.

D'oh, sorry, misread it. I missed the word "don't" and I was about to remind him of his own religion's tenets.
This is another reason I don't believe in god/religion. I don't accept the fact that, if I spend my entire life devoted to helping the poor and suffering people of the world, I still go to hell unless I tell Jesus how great he is every Sunday.

The scripture says God created the darkness and the light, the evil and the good. You're probably ok.

Jesus came down on the religious Pharasee the most. They made a few hundred laws which made it nearly impossible to be okay. If you walked too far on a Sabbath or got out of the wrong side of the bed you were in trouble.
Now if I may offer a lil advice, you may want rethink some of what you think about the bible. We still have many, many manuscripts of the original letters. They have not changed. There are some slight language barriers, but nothing that distorts it horribly.
From a Christian perspective, God is extremely forgiving. Many find that really hard to believe. But it does revolve around faith in Christ. I know that a lot of people have a hard time with this. This is just what I'm offering.

Obviously god doesn't forgive or give a rats *** about anyone. A school bus full of little elementary kids rolled over and killed several kids by my town and two of the boys that are in critical condition are sons of one of my dads co-workers. Where was god on that one?

Maybe he needed those children in heaven to do some holy work. You never know. Also, God didn't intend for us as humans to put our children in steel traps moving at 40mph. This was a human failure.
