How is Pump cheaper?

I don't quite understand how some people on here describe pump as being "cheaper" than regular rec play (please note I am not referring ANY of this to tournament play).

When I go out to play paintball with my buddies, I use this decent $33 paint that I get from my local store called Bombz (if you live in the SoCal area and buy from CCpaintball, you should know) and it's pretty decent paint tbh. It's pretty brittle, a few dimples here and there.

Since I use an Axe with that paint above, I get to use 2000 rounds for the whole day for $33. Not bad, but then people still say pump is cheaper.

Since you don't need as much rounds as a semi when playing pump, it would be smart to buy the best paint you could have at maybe 500-1000 rounds or 1-2 bags. I was looking around on ANS gear (I haven't bothered to check the price per bag at my local shop. Idk if they will even separate Marbilizers or Evils from their cases.) and 1 bag of Evil is $18. A half case is $35. How is that at all cheaper? It's the same thing as when I could play semi.

I'm sure some of you will just tell me to use paint that I will be able to play with at a better price, but I'd rather buy the best paint possible so I don't miss that shot with a pump marker. So how is pump play cheaper exactly?

Also, is 500 rounds even enough for one day with pump play? I have pretty good trigger control when it comes to semi, but idk about pump. I usually have about 1-2 bags left at the end of the day. I haven't played because my pump is weird and I have to adjust it to my comfort level.

So you want to compare apples to oranges and ask why they are priced differently??

Sure you can budget ball with a semi.

And you can still use a case if you wanted to with a pump...

However...Most pump players will use far less than semi players and IF the paint is the SAME PRICE... then pump will therefore be cheaper...

Trying to compare a case of cheap paint from a big store vs a bag of premium paint from a field is not going to prove that pump and semi cost the same...

As for using 500 rounds in a day... again it totally depends on the player. My average is about 250. Some days more, some less depending on what I am doing, how I am playing and what gun I am using (SC, OC, Semi...)

The main reason pump is cheaper is you can make your paint last longer in most cases.

So lets say you buy a case for 33.00 and use it all that day. A pump player might only use 500 meaning they can play 3 more days before they have to buy another case.

So after 4 days your at 132.00 while the pump player is only at 33.00

This is just based on shooting a case a day while the pump player is at 1 bag a day. Everyone shoots a different amount of paint but in general a pump player will shoot less.

you use less paint its that simple the price of the gun might be the same as other semi's but in the long run you would save when playing

First off, not everybody can bring their own paint. At my field, for example, there is an FPO rule, and only one type of paint to choose from (everyone pays the same price per bag no matter what). I also know that I shoot much less than a bag a day, I usually shoot around 300 per day. This means that i dont nececarily have to even buy new paint every weekend, compared to most semi players who shoot 3-5 bags per day of play. So, I pay less than half of the normal paintballer.

The same applies to byop too. If I bought a $70 case of evil at the beginning of thr season, it might last me almost two months, bringing my per day of play cost much lower.

alright. your right pump is not cheaper. ill dump out my extra 3 bags so i can buy a case next time i play....

its exactly like they already stated above. i spend $55 on paint, and it lasts me a month (sometimes more). so even me at $55, if you buy 2 cases of $33 paint per month, your spending more for the same amount of field time.

At our field, we usually carry three grades of paint. Our field paint is pretty decent (DXS Bronze equivalent). Our highest grade paint is only about 11% more. So at our field, even if you use your example of pumps using the best paint, while semis are using the cheapest, chances are you are still going to save a whole lot, if you are using a low volume vs. a a high volume comparison.

simple answer 2 bags of paint will last you the whole day or at least 5-6 hours of play

I shoot less than 500 balls a day (Marbalizer or All Star) - $18
Through a tiny hopper - $6
Using a 13 ci tank - $60

The only reason I will ever use more than 750 paintballs is if I am playing speedball against all ramping opponents, compared to them who shoot over a case each.

I play mostly scenario and woods. This was my first year playing pump and playing any tourney. I started both in December of last year. I shot, total, almost ten cases since then between 7 scenarios/big games, psp Chicago, the practices leading up to Chicago, and a bunch of open play.

Its cheaper cause where I am the cheap paint is $50 for a case because everywhere is FPO. Me and my friend split a bag playing with our snipers last weekend. That way we can go almost every week.

Also you can get a pretty good sniper for less that $200. try that with an electro

Simple not ramping equals less paint in the air and having to pump everytime gets tiring after a long open game

If you are shooting in a big game - 100 vs 100 - then I can see going thru hundreds of balls in a day. If you are playing 10 vs 10 or 15 vs 15 then a bag will last you all weekend. If it doesn't then your wasting paint. Remember it only takes 1 well placed shot!

I use 250 rounds in a day with my pump. At $10 per 500 round bag, that's $5 worth of paint. When I used to play semi, I could easily go through a bag, sometimes two. Therefore, just looking at paint costs, I am spending less money (at minimum, half of the price I paid with a semi).

Great! Now I'm a cheapskate because I like to play pump!

Seriously, I usually split a case to a case and a half between 4 people to play 3-4 hours. We played pump and semi ONLY last weekend and brought home 2 1/2 bags for next time. (BTW... Our "home" field is FPO)

I played 3 hours of pump getting around 10 games in. I had a 500 round bag o' paint that was worth $22. I left with at least 300 rounds. When i play electro for that amount of time using cheap paint i spent about 2x as much on paint, and i dont use pods in a game either. Most pump players make a case last a minimum of a month, i heard one guy say it lasted him 2 months.
