Entry Fees and Prizes

Registration for the US Paintball League’s Surf City Open April 3 – 5, 2009 in Huntington Beach, CA opens February 16, 2009. This event will be capped off at 130 teams, so teams will need to register as soon as possible to secure a spot in this highly anticipated event.

The US Paintball League has lowered the 2009 entrance fees and raised the prize package.

Divisions

Division 1 7-man entry $2,350
Division 2 7-man entry $2,150
Division 3 7-man entry $1,850

Classifications
A professional player is someone who is listed on a 2009 USPL Pro roster or 2009 NXL roster. Anyone who played professional in 2008 but is not on a 2009 pro roster (USPL or NXL) is classified as Semi Pro.

• D1 may have unlimited D1 players, unlimited SP players and up to 2 Pro players
• D2 may have all D2 players, up to two D1 players, no SP or Pro players
• D3 may have only D3 players
• 5 man players cannot have any NPPL experience (this classifies them as D3 5-man) with the exception of up to one D3 7-man player.

Camille, you're awesome!

*quick question: If I was registered as "staff" for an NPPL event in the past, am I still allowed to play 5-man? (i assume so, i just want to make sure)

lol yes, you'd be fine - that wouldn't prevent you from qualifying for 5-man. Way to be honest though!

Just throwing this out there... Registration is gong to be difficult if you don't know what players ranks are going to be.

Also, as of the 16th of Feb there will be no players that appeared on a NXL roster in 2009.

Camille, Surgical Strike played the last NPPL as a D4 5man team. Does this disqualify us as a 5man team for USPL? We love playing 5man and would love to play USPL 5man

What happened to working on lowering entry fees? I thought you guys where going to make it more affordable. Atleast that is what was said as one of your reasons to for creating the league.

.
your entry fee's are slightly lower and prizes slightly higher but most teams won't benefit from that

Yeah, I would think that for the first season, the league is targeting the east and west coast. Once they build some momentum I would assume and hope they would try to add a midwest championship as well and do a tournament or two in the midwest.

good to see uspl following through with everything promised so far.

as for midwest issue:
im from midwest and reason we dont really have many teams here that play is... well psp is RIGHT in chicago every year, so most teams practice for xball and fields set up for xball practice, and local tournys are xball... so not as many teams get to try 7man

hopefully in the future some 7man will come to midwest and get it going here, as it wont be terrible travel since its in the middle

100 bucks? Seriously? While that technically falls under the lower entry fee promise (just barely) that is and added savings of a whopping $12.50 cents per 8 man roster. That won't even save me enough to buy a new ID card.

If you played more than 1 NPPL you got a discount off your next tournament so i get no savings.

I would seriously love to see sub 2000 dollar entry fees for lower level teams.

I think they really tried to lower travel costs for teams. If your team only has to play 4 events and 3 of them on the west coast, will that lower your annual travel expenses for you? (honest question)

regardless, the entry fee's are lower and the prizes are higher across all divisions when compared to the NPPL's prices. and then when you compare to the PSP (the direct competitor of the USPL):

DI $2,800 ($450 more)
DII $2,500 ($350 more)
DIII $2,350 ($500 more)

MUCH more expensive. with the NPPL no longer relevant, the USPL becomes more affordable when compared to the PSP, thus more appealing to teams. along with the reduced travel costs of four events to count for the "national" title and 3 events for each of the "conference titles", it makes it cheaper than the competition.
