Ok, here's how things are gonna work this Sunday for the event:
5 teams play double round robin giving each team a total of 8 games.
This gives us a total of 20 games to be played in prelims since 2 teams play at a time.
We will take the top 2 teams and let them play best 2 out of 3 to decide who gets the money.
Should be a short but fun day. Start talking about coaching now so we can get it resolved by the captain's meeting. If any team does not have a person who can coach, it seems unfair to allow it--unless they are willing to use a fill in (which hasnt worked well for the Saints).
Also, any one in the area Friday willing to help set up the World Cup layout please get with me for a start time. We may also be working on it Saturday, or maybe just Saturday if Friday doesnt pan out. Big thanks to all the teams who signed up!

I agree on the coaching. If a team doesn't have a coach, then it shouldn't be allowed.. That question would best be asked for the captains meeting, because as of now, I have 5 coming and the 6th flaked out. If everyone agrees or doesn't want it allowed at that time, then its all good I suppose.

No coaching kind of defeats the purpose of having a practice tournament using PSP rules before world cup. Teams going to cup might as well skip this and just practice.
Coaching is a tool for the players to use, not a 6th man.
It only helps the snake players and if anyone has seen/played the snake this year, then you would know that it doesn't really help that much.
Here is a history lesson, coaching started when players complained that they were being pulled from over-concerned parents or ignorant spectators unable to keep quiet causing players to get pulled.

Waiting til the captain's meeting to ask about coaching would be foolish. I didnt say we had to decide right now, but might as well discuss it now so we dont waste time at the meeting figuring out such an important topic. At least we can hash out some points while we have some free time.

If coaching doesnt help that much, why should teams going to cup skip the tourney? You can still get 5 man PSP practice with or without coaching. It seems to me not having a coach would be better practice so you could have somewhat of an advantage at cup when you do have one. The biggest negative would be the coach not getting coaching practice. If all 5 teams cant provide a coach, then I think it only fair to not have coaching at our tourney; however, it's ultimately up to the players to decide. I dont want to spend most of the captain's meeting discussing this--games need to start for 9am or earlier.
And Cliff, sounds good about the materials. See ya saturday.

Because it does help. It doesn't help as much as headsets in every player but it does help. The other thing it helps to practice is dealing with crowd noise. Even a D5 match with 2 teams from the middle of nowhere is going to have a crowd watching with noise, coaching and counter coaching.
Teams work on communication at every other practice. Having a chance to play against multiple teams in a day is rare especially in preparation for a large event. Teams have limited opportunities to practice in PSP event conditions prior to an event and should take as much of an advantage as possible.
Ultimately it's your tournament and I'm not playing in it. I don't have a dog in the fight either way.
I think any spectators out there would willing to help out. Its unfortunate that a team can't bring out another player to be a dedicated coach, but that happens all the time at big events. Just ask Alliance about the Chicago Open when their coach couldn't make it.

should have just said NPPL rules with 15bps capped semi only.. bring old school back, thats where the real skills at.. I still agree if a team doesn't have a coach, then its not allowed. Its only fair in that case.
P.S. any word on the 1v1 idea? since the tourny should end somewhat early, it wouldn't take too long for a 1v1.. $10-$15 entry, winner gets a rotor, tank or mask?

If everything runs smooth we should be done with the 5 man around noonish, leaving plenty enough time to run a 1v1 deal. We have tanks, rotors, and all kinds of masks in stock. Entry fee would vary depending on prize and amount of players. These are estimated #s but here's the amount of total entry money that would be needed to give away certain prizes:
Rotor- around $150
I4 or E-Flex- around $100
Proflex- around $75
Ninja tank- around $125
If we could get 10 players to enter, entry would be $7-$15 each to give away any of the prizes above. That would be 2 players per team, which I'm not sure if we can reach. If we can reach that total, I'm all for it.

Coaching is definitely a must; this tourney was for helping teams practice for cup; no coaching does not help. If its just a 5 man tourney we might as well do it a few weeks after cup.

I say coaching, there will be teams there to help the ones that dont have a 'designated' coach.

If its practice for cup it should be cup rules. Im not playing in the tourney but i will be there to watch. Also if a team doesnt have a coach and coaching is allowed I dont mind helping out.
