I use large plastic pipe for mortar typer props.

I've used bags of flower to sim the cocaine in a cocaine cartel vs. US troops (that were sent to Columbia) to intervene with the cartels.

I ran a scenario-type field. For almost 20 years.

In 1987, my guys didn't care for the capture the flag stuff. They said that was for the Boy Scouts. The first bridge we blew, we did with a large box from an earth mover. We told the guys that it was full of C-4, and they had to get it to the bridge and put it near the base.

I was up one night and nearly cut my trigger finger off when a folding knife closed while I was making a Bazooka out of cardboard tubing. I shot with my middle finger the next day.

The best prop is a set of timed missions. The troops love them. include a map.

For example.
Mission one------12:01-12:39 Assault bridge at grid G-13. Blow bridge if you capture same.
MIssion two -----12:46--1:29 Establish ambush at crossroads on grid E-27.

Now, the man that creates the missions must make the two teams collide at some point in their missions. For instance, the second mission above where the crossroads are ambushed, you must send the enemy team through that crossroad. You can tell them to attack an enemy position on the hill, but take them through that crossroad.

NOT knowing where the enemy will be (or what his mission is) is a really good way to create a feeling of reality. The mission creator should stay out of the game. He knows too much to be on either side.

In our area, we have a lot of woods. I can send a team 500 yards, and they will not know if they will be hit while crossing the bridge, or going across the tracks or moving through the crossroads near the open area. It makes the team feel lazy. When the enemy walks into your ambush, and they are not paying attention, it is easy to nail them. They will soon learn not to slack off.

We'd be hesitant to do anything this realistic now (since 9-11), but this was a few months prior at the first modern Blanding game in 2001 ...

C4 with timers...

Hi-tech fake data...

Misc bombs (the ones with the nails were not allowed by the MP's)

The Ragnarok Nuke (made by DBD and used by MXS...)

My personal fav from the game...a real geiger counter - if you opened it you'd clearly find a cube of C4, timer, and vile of VX gas... (This was used to kill the enemy base, including the general and XO)

What label program did you use and what did you use to make the C4? Step by Step instructions?

I believe the C4 is just some kind of white modeling clay. All the labeling was done by our team captain, Marksman, in Photoshop. (He was a consultant for the DC bombsquad, so some of his stuff borders on "too damn realistic".)

The pipe bombs are just painted PVC pipes, and the dynamite is just wires and dowls.

The nuke is an old computer and various containers and spare parts.

I bought the geiger counter on ebay for $12.

I actually have a "how to" on making shrunken heads, which we did way back in 2000 for a game at EMR in PA...

Tradeguy makes a shrunken head...
http://www.dead-by-dawn.org/shrunken_head/page1.htm

The white skulls were really cheap....like 12 for $10

These are a good example of "you never know what will be useful". We made these with no idea if or how they might be used in the game. The producer liked them so much that they made them into major game props. Ironicaly we never found any ourselves - but years later we ran into several roleplayers at different games wearing one of our little skulls...heh.

GREAT stuff...some of the coolest hand props Ive seen.
I like the realism too. Yeah, you wouldn't want to try taking any of it on an airplane though.
I build alot of fairly realistic props too, but I always label them with a big orange tag that reads "GAME PROP". So far no problems - not even at some games played on a military base...although base security had been informed prior to the game, so there were no suprise "issues". Accurate looking props should not be a problem if handled/transported with a little common sense & a few basic precautions.

Again....AWSOME props.

Not to be a smart *** but that is an ion chamber not a geiger counter. Geiger counters detect radiations and harmful gases. It may have a geiger counter on it though.
