I am wondering if there are any old school/new school DPB'ers who want to start a group and get some weekly scrims going for the hell of it.

I was one of the DPB team members (went by Adrenaline back then), so I figured I'd give an update on the internal state of DPB:

DPB2 started when most of the core team were moving onto college or into their professional careers (read: we acquired lives). Since then, there hasn't been a whole lot of momentum because our life priorities changed. Kuja/Kraln and I have made a couple attempts to get the team back together, but without much success.

We're in the very slow process of a full rewrite and will need all new art created as well. So that means we need 3D modelers, 2D artists, programmers and sound engineers. I'm sure PBNation has plenty of talent floating around.

So I guess this is a call to arms for anyone that is willing to help. We need help on every front, so if you're interested, let me know and we'll get to talking.

We don't have a projected time for completion because we're so far away. I can, however, show you two HUD concepts we came up with. The first got scrapped because the direction sucked. The second still sucks, but it's better than the first.

Awesome to see things are picking up again.

For the most part I really like the second HUD, but I think the score meter might look better with nothing between it and the bottom. Perhaps the black gradient could be a little taller and hold the round number display on it beneath the time?

Also I know you'd be a little reluctant to pick up some shmuck off the forums, but I'd done a lot of stuff with photoshop and my favorite thing to work on is little displays and graphics for games, websites, etc.
So I'd love to help if possible, maybe I can give a few examples or something.

You're right about HUD 2. Looking down for the info is more natural to me. Looks great. The new website looks fantastic as well. Can't wait to see it when it's done.

Oh, forgot to mention this in the email--I majored in music and work at a music store. My boss is a live sound and recording engineer, and there's a recording studio in business below us. Could be useful.

This is great news. My question is will this new version be based on the Half life engine or Half life 2 engine? Of course it should be easier with the orignal HL but the physics and graphics are much better on HL2.

Take all the time you guys need just keep us updated to keep people interested. For the meantime, do you guys fancy playing tonight at around 9 PM central?

Yakkers, the team was birthed out of another paintball community -- just kids that wanted to make a better mouse trap than what was available. It would be silly to turn away community help from a community-driven game. Get at me and we'll talk.

As for the game questions: DPB2 will be on the Source (Half-Life 2) engine... it just makes sense for all the reasons Legion outlined and more. I battled with myself for a few minutes here trying to decide if I wanted to spout out the roadmap, but decided to keep it wrapped for now.
