Ask The Ref!

Gentleman,

I probabaly shouldn't be posting as a matter of a professional ethics standpoint. But here goes.

If you have a question or a need for validation of a "call" or a rules clarification, ask me. Intelligently, clearly and without any embellishment. I will promise to give you an answer as closely pertinent to the rule book as possible. I have read and understood the rulebook for quite some time. I have actually had occasion as a player to have rules calls overturned because I knew the rule book better then the reffs. Ask Rosie. HE taught me. Thats why he helped me make it to the NXL. Thats why I was asked by Chuck to come to the NPPL. I Love Paintball. I play and have played in all the leagues. I have felt your pain and been on the bad side of a call. I missed finals by 1 point. I have seen it all on both sides of the mask.

In all my experience as a ref I have learned this. Players on all levels respect me for the reff that I am. Fair, unbiased, and above all else, respectful. That being said, I am no ones friend. Behind that mask and black and white stripes it is all business. I know a lot of players and owners. I dont care who wins. I care about a game where I can make sure that safety is my one and only concern. Unfortuately some people decide that I must also proactively enforce rules that they should ALL abide by. This takes away from the time I need to make sure you as players get the opportunity to spotlight our sport into the mainstream where it belongs.

Gentlemen, I challenge you. Play paintball. Don't cheat paintball and yourself and you will see the difference. And I and all the REAL people will applaud you. And yo will get what you desire.

COMPETITION, SPORT and a true sense of what it means to be a true ATHLETE.

My Name is KIMO,

nice to meet you.

p.s. I will never hide behind a screen name.

Question about shoes.

The rules state no metal inserts on cleats but are plastic inserts aloud.

Plastic inserts of fine. No metal. Even the rounded off football ones or the ones used on rugby cleats( I played semi pro in england).

The metal tears up the turf too much and could possibly puncture a bunker. Not to mention if you slid into someone or stepped on someones foot.

Thanks to all of you that ref events. Why you want to take time out of your life to be on your feet 10-12 hours a day, taking hits and verbal abuse is beyond me. You have my deepest respect and gratitude for without you there would be no national events.

Hope to meet you in Boston!

I have a question, when you are podding and the pod gets shot, does that count as a hit, it happened at a team practice to a teamate and we've been wondering if thatd be a hit. We thought most likely it would be but just werent sure. Thank you

ok, game is over, and refs find an obvious hit on the flag carrier after he hung it.

is it different if it is an unobvious hit? is it different if he is the last guy alive? or say there are 3 guys left.

kamakaze yes as long as you have the pod in your hand or any where on your body it is part of your equipment and will count as a hit ... untill you toss it it is part of you.

So you could get shot in the pod while podding and throw it and the ref wouldnt notice(if he wasnt paying attention) and still play. Because when this happened at practice, his pod just emptied and was just beginning to throw it still wasnt quite released from his hand, and it got shot. So we didnt know what to do, but to call him out. Thanks you for informing me

Hanging the flag with an obvious hit

I refer to rule 19.03 number 1. Which states,

(1) Playing-On. A player that continues to play after an obvious hit is Playing-
On, but does not materially influenced the course of the game.

So that player will be eliminated and a one for one penalty assesed.

But only if a ref was paying attention right?

Any hit deemed obvious by the ref will be called as a one for one even if the player hangs the flag dirty

I heard according to the rule book that if a paintball hits something, bounces, then hits you and breaks it doesn't count. Sorry if it was a dumb question I just heard it and was to lazy to look it up.

if a player got hit in teh hopper and then fired a few shots but did not alter the game any but did fire after he was hit he will be called for a 1 for 1 ... if he shot some one out after being hit it would be a 2 for 1.. and a 3 for 1 would be if a player acknowledged that he was hit and then fired his marker ...
now if the player wipes a hit in any surcunstances(sp) sorry .. it would be an automatic 3 for 1

well according to the ref clinic this past weekend rosie and chuck explained it as if he's the last player alive on either team its a reverse hang and pull, meaning both pull and hang go to the opposite team. if it's an obvious hit and he hangs the flag and there's still players on the field. he's assesed a one for one, and there's a re-hang. If it's an unobvious hit, the player is just eliminated, and the flag is once again re-hung and time resumes. please correct if i'm wrong, but thats what i got from it.

also i can't wait for this weekend....woot!!! i'll be one of the flag judges on the chronic field aka field 5
