No they don't. The American and Chinese economies are so interconnected that Beijing cannot afford to call us to task on our debt - it would be economic suicide for them. Beijing also has its own debt to worry about and probably is in a more trouble than we are down the road because of their currency manipulation, artificial bank rates mandated by the central government, and off-the-books record keeping in their localities.

The U.S. government and American citizens hold the vast majority of our debt, something like $9.8-10 trillion.

China owns about 8 percent of our debt. Japan, the UK, Russia, and Brazil also have significant stakes in our debt.

It's funny that people think other countries can "call" debt anyway. It's not in any of our creditors' interests to damage our economy.

As for the original post, there have been plenty of "good" and "bad" people who have been named Time's person of the year. Ghandi got it, Putin got it, George Marshall got it twice, MLK got it, Khomeini got it...even "the computer" got it.

Ghandi got it? That guy didn't do ANYTHINg. The only reason the British government "listened" to his protests was due only to the fact that if they didn't deal with him, they would have had to deal with violent Indian nationalists.

Same thing with MLK.

How does leading a successful nonviolent movement equate to nothing? The notion that they only listened because the alternative was creating a violent uprising doesn't dismiss their credit in creating that situation.

Time tends to select world leaders most of the time. It's a pretty hollow award that is only designated and reserved for an extremely small percent of the population. Basically, the award is worthless. It certainly wasn't Obama this past year. I'd sooner give it to CM Punk for his 400+ day long title reign.

The back to back 38-39 selections are extremely ROFL in hindsight.

This is ... actually not a bad call. But for all its popularity, Gagnam Style didn't really change anything with the world.

The only thing worse than a President who's negligence led to the death of his staff members, is a bunch of retards pretending like they ever gave two ****s about his staff members, just so they can bash him.

And what of those of us who actually had "met" and spoke to one of those that were killed? Do we still get to be pissed by your rules?

Considering I said "we" that implies I was including myself in that group, and that means its going to be more than 0%. I also know there are/were some SA goons or goonswarm members around here that likely knew vile rat a lot better than I did.

It counts about as much as my knowing people who have been shot or involved in mass murders. Gives some perspective on the impact but has no inherent bearing on the truthfulness of what you say.

If anything it has the potential to make you less objective on the subject.

We were in the same squad in Goonswarm

I've having trouble with this issue sorting out actual negligence from manufactured Republican outrage. I'm quite confident the government ****ed up, but the spin machine is throwing out so much misrepresented or outright false information about the attack I've become exhausted with it.

The only place where people seem to be talking about Benghazi is Fox News and the National Review. I've not kept up with it, but I can't help but feel that all the "outrage" coming from Republican pundits seems a bit disingenuous.

This is also where I stand. I feel as if the Fox News brigade actually prevented me from caring. I can't take the issue seriously.
