Jeep is really best for traveling anywhere if there is mountain or water or grass or anything else. You can't compare jeep with anybody.

Well there are some really nice H1 hummers out there as well as a few specialty made vehicles so I wouldn't say you can't compare anything to a Jeep. Jeep is probably one of the longest made production vehicles in the category with a proven track record though.

Yes, there are options, but Jeeps are the most affordable option for its kind of off-road capabilities.

Jeeps are money pits.
<'85 Yota pickups are dirt cheap for off-roading
I have an 86, missed the solid axle by a year.
My next project, after I'm satisfied with the TJ.

Not sure how they are money pits..... I have wheeled a number of Jeeps that the only mod was a set of MT tires. Plus the 4.0 is damn near bullet proof and are one of the most reliable engines ever build. I will admit that they are easy to drop alot of money into due to the amount of parts available for them.

I guess it depends on where you wheel.
You're not coming with me in a stock wrangler though, that's for sure.
When you start getting up to 37-40" tires:
Stock jeep axles - not gonna do much for you
Stock toy axles - good to go
The parts are cheaper too
My Jeep
My pos truck
My buddy's truck
Just my opinion I guess.
....I could almost build 2 of his toys for as much as I've dumped into my TJ

I completly agree with you on that, I love my Jeeps but I would personally take a Toyota over one. I have had my hands in my share of toyota builds as well and they are considerably cheaper to build. Axles in the Yota are much better than any axle that was ever available in the jeep. While the 4.0 is bullet proof in my book, the 22r is one of the most solid engines I have ever worked on. Not many machines can see 300k and still go out wheeling every weekend.

i can vouch for the 4.o being bullet proof. Had one with a rod knock from hell bought it for 175 bucks wheeled the piss out of beat it up hit rev limiter a bunch and it still held strong

I'm looking at sport cages, specifically bang for the buck.
Blue Torch Front - $250
A to Z Fab -$480
Poly performance
front:$500
rear: $200
Genright Front & Rear $800
KOZ Standard kit $359
Really interested to hear opinions on design/triangulation, thru dash or not, appropriate tie ins and which of these kits are lacking/I should avoid.
I was leaning:
atoz ($480)
poly rear/koz standard ($559)
poly rear/btf front ($450)

I see Blaine do a lot of bashing on the fabbed A pillar sanctions that don't go through the dash, but they look easier for a DIY install...
The BTF goes all the way to the floor though? Do you have it tied in to the frame?

I haven't done frame tie-ins yet but I have it bolted through the bottom of the rocker guards. I'll probably do tie-ins at the A pillar and C pillar this spring. As for through-the-dash vs. around the dash, yes there's a difference in strength. But, it's still immensely stronger than what you've got now and I'm positive it will hold up to a rough flop. I think you know that I don't half-*** things and if I felt that it wasn't enough, I wouldn't have gone that route.
Now, the one that you've got pictured is just BS. That's not doing anything. Mine distribute the force of a flop across the entire floorboard and down into the rocker guards, which are very stout. Once I've got frame tie-ins, the force will be distributed over the frame rails.

I went to my club meeting tonight and a buddy said he would help me install and weld it all up for free. Goal is to have this done by May.
Hopefully he comes through too.
Probably set on the BTF/Poly Combo
Would adding those rear diagonal tubes on put passengers in the rear at risk? (Trying to keep my back seat)
I like what you did instead of the ugly triangle in BTF's pics too

The rear diagonals.....not sure. It all depends on how you set them up relative to the back seat. Pad them and the passengers shouldn't have any issues. I'll be adding to my rear this spring--mainly C-B triangulation to stiffen up the entire structure. But since I don't carry rear passengers I'm less worried about the rear half of the cage. I plan on building a spare tire mount above the fuel cell, though. Should be pretty cool once it's all said and done.
