I had to go shoot a veterans day ceremony in the local community. They had a contest for kids to write the best essay about veterans day. Then the winners read their essays out loud. They were all basically about thanking us for driving tanks and saving us from bad guys... But the best one was the girl who said thanks to the U.S for "Going to Iraq so we could help them build their country".

I love seing all the people who go out of their way to go and cash in on their free dinners and stuff... I'll just as soon not let anyone know that I am in the military once I drive out the front gate.

Amen. Had a guy the other day at a fast food joint in abu's get irate because they wouldn't give him a discount. First time in a long time where I had to step in and introduce myself and tell him to shut the **** up or leave. What a disgrace that twat was.

About the letters and stuff, some of the **** the kids will write will literally make me laugh for a good week. We will always put up the really good ones for a couple days and then sure as **** we'll get something else that will top it. **** like, "thanks for killing everyone so I don't have to" from a first grader.

12 years on the line and never had a cop check my badge. Aircraft security is the biggest waste of money. We're the only service who has "inner security" on their average aircraft. When was the last time we lost an aircraft stateside to unauthorized access of any kind?

I dunno but when an SF augmentee is left alone without a radio to know there's an exercise and sees somebody in civvies running across the runway it's always a good time to see them pull the charging handle on their M16 and yell, "using deadly force!"

Had chili's for lunch and soon to hit up another place for dinner. Buddy of mine got his free doughnut and coffee at Krispy Kreme.

Because thats the first thing they teach you at augmentee school. They def don't teach you escalation of force or anything of the like.

I was an SF augee for the last exercise. **** sucked. Living in the field for a week. No food other than MRE's, no showers. Slept on the floor of some stupid building that wasn't a hardened shelter so we slept in MOPP gear and woke up to put on appropriate MOPP gear for teh alarm. Worst week ever. I did however engage and kill 5 people.

edit: there's a food baby in my stomach right now. hit up denny's for breakfast, Red Robin for lunch and California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. Also got a coupon for another free pizza and drink from CPK after paying for my dessert.

I read living in the field and just lost it. We don't "live in the field"... EVER! You stayed in the exercise area because they, probably like most SF units, don't get a solid plan up to the day of the exercise. **** just look at how horrible air shows are!

As far as flight line security... its a joke. It needs to be owner/user. Period.... dot!

I get to move to a different flight next year. I was likely going to move no matter what but I was supposed to go to a different one to get to experience another side of comm. Instead I'm going to be a deputy in a flight I spent some previous time in because they don't think the guy that they were thinking about putting in there can handle it since he isn't a huge fan of project management and the accompanying workload. Plus the flight commander can be a little overbearing at times. I really don't care but they still should have given him a chance to swim before it gets to be a major issue since as an officer managing projects is a fact of life. It's kinda sad that leading a project has caused him to rethink a career in the AF.
