Paypal and Gifting.

Im looking into buying most of my new gear used. My only hesitation is that most people seem to want the money gifted in order to avoid the fees. Is this safe? If they decide to not send the items is there any way to get the money back?

Also how does the feedback system work? I assume if someone has a high number in green next to their name, or BST trusted its safer than not?

Thanks,

Generation.

Gifting does not give you any insurance so if anything goes downhill you can't open or file a claim.
Feedback goes like this
Positive/neutral/negative

Should I be overly wary of someone that insists gifting and is opposed to paying fees?

Im looking at picking up a marker and I dont want to get boned on a first time used buy.

You can send them the money and pay the fees yourself. This is a much safer alternative. Gifting money that is intended as payment is a violation of Paypal's TOS, so don't do it.

Gifting voids insurance. No go.

Never, ever gift the money, you are just setting yourself up to potentially getting scammed, thus your out money and gear.

I'll put it like this, with "gift", you have ZERO security.

I ONLY pay via gift to members with GREAT feedback. Must be like 25+ (NO negatives). But still, IF something happens in transit, etc, then you're basically screwed.

With newer people, if they want $75 gifted, I say how about $75 (After PayPal removes fees), so I'd have to send like $82 (Or something like that). If they say no, then it's really phishy, because they're getting $75 either way, ya know?

That's how I do, and don't get scammed much on any sites. *Knocks on wood*

Like others have said, don't gift money. Especially if someone is insisting on it. In my opinion, a reputable seller will never ask for a gifted Paypal payment. Look for sellers with a lot of positive feedback and little to no negative or neutral feedback.

Whenever someone asks me to gift I just go along with it till the end and then add the fees myself. You can Google pay pal calculator and use that to easily find out the right amount. If you tell people you'll still pay the fee ontop of the agreed price, most of the time they will beg you to still gift it with the extra money.

Feedback can be used for a few things. For one before I even deal/offer/pm/or post I look at their feedback. If they have little to none or negative feedback I usually pass and go on to the next deal. Now just because they have a negative doesn't mean they are completely out of the question. You can click on their feedback and look at the details. Every so often a user's negative feedback came from the person who they legitimately had a reason to leave negative feedback to.

The other main use for the feedback system is an unofficial way to decided who ships first. USUALLY the person with lower feedback ships first. I say usually because there are plenty who don't believe that's how it should work.

I agree with everything except the feedback, but I assume that is a mistake. Higher feedback should ship second. I look at feedback and seniority for shipping order.

Sorry you are right, I meant to say the person with less feedback ships first! Thank you for catching that mistake! I will edit the original post.

That makes sense to me personally. I assume that with no feedback and joining the site this month. It would be hard to get someone to ship first to me. SO the feedback will really have to come in handy when picking the right person to buy a gun from.

Iv'e worked out some killer trades or a trade on something I really wanted and had to walk away from it because they wouldn't ship 1st with them having little to no feedback. It dose suck but you have to be smart and pass them up.

Oh ya one HUGE thing to remember in B/S/T: If it looks to good to be true, then it probably is.
