I don't know. I remember hearing about John Paul spending much time publicly gloating about his business. I can't recall anything specific. I'm distinguishing between the Vatican and the Papacy by the way.

This video is good: http://www.cato.org/multimedia/media...morgan-tonight

Penn Jillette actually understands Catholics...note...not saying he agrees with us but it's amazing how he understands our position more than Piers Morgan who is Catholic but doesn't believe in the Church's teachings.

Aren't south american Catholics very conservative? In which case reform would be in the opposite direction of that which I mentioned in the OP.

Actually youre probably right. And the society of jesus is notoriously opposed to birth control, women deacons, gays, etc. Hell they have even been accused of anti-semitism more than once in the past.

So maybe pope francis wants to go back to the old ways.

Pretty much, hes a pretty outspoken opponent of liberation theology from what ive read. Im not catholic so I really have no skin in this game but it is kinda refreshing to see them not swaying to public opinion.

If that's so, I wonder how much further they'll fall before this one dies/retires.

Conspiracy theories aside, this papacy might be more interesting than I thought.
