I've never dealt with them or heard of them until you said something. I'll bug them later.

Should I try to buy this? He's asking 5k obo. He says the transmission grinds. I'm not sure if it needs to be replaced or rebuilt. Any questions I should ask about the transmission?

Ask about the motor, what parts went into to it? Who tuned it?

What technical knowledge do you have? You can get the tranny rebuilt and have an 02 STI for cheap. If this isn't a Dd, go for it. If this is a car you rely on, I'd be hesitant.

For 5k you can get one with lower miles that's stock and been well taken care of. I'd pass.

What's your spending limit? If you can stretch out to 7 or 8k you can get some great condition bugeyes.

With a running STI swap? I doubt it. $5k isn't bad for (what I assume to be) a clean body and running STI motor.

Yeah didn't mean STi swap. But he's looking at 7-9k to get that running with a 6 speed in it. For 7-9k you can find very nice buggies making more than a mere STi swap would.

With 200k on the frame? That's asking for trouble. Plus there's issues that arise with swaps all the time.

A clean bugeye with around 100k miles making like 300whp can be found plenty around 8k or so, give or take other mods. There's even a 6 speed up right now making like 280 for 9 so, I mean, there's that.

The whole hopping into a car that'll become my DD with that many miles and no guarantee it'll drive right after the new tranny goes in would scare me.

I hit some road damage and it ripped my oil drain plug out among other things. Totalled it. Thanks Delaware.
