*******S!

i want funny stories about recruiters and you guys give me this ****, jeeze.

anyway, it's sounding like AF recruiters are alright guys. I liked my recruiter's attitude, he didn't care what I joined he just wanted me to make an informed decision and if i chose the AF then so be it.

wow i can't belive i just said that "im going to be an 0-1" you do realize how far away from an 0-1 you are, you aren't even eligible to enlist yet, let alone go through college and OCS or regular rotc.

you have no room to cut down the coast guard, they are excellent at what they do and there a lot of people alive today who owe their lives to the coast guard.

Yes but they used to be under DOT....when involved in war they fall under the Navy.......I usually accept most people talking trash, cause I will dish it out just the same...just not ignorant young kids.

I appreciate the coast guard quite a bit.. I live on the great lakes and enjoy taking out my sea kayak in the summer. My dad isn't as adventurous as he used to be, so now when I got out on long open water paddles I am by myself with only my rescue radio and cell phone. It always makes me feel good when I see the coast guard cutters or choppers going by because it reminds me that somebody is there if I have a problem or a bad storm comes up. Last winter a fisherman walked out on some thin ice, broke through and slid under. An off duty coast guard guy jumped in (in street clothes) and swam under to pull him out of the freezing water. We might risk out lives in Iraq, but these guys have to be ready to do it every day.

Doubt it....they will get more funding by staying in DHS.

Do you think they get extra money in their paycheck for helping you? hell no. They will do whatever they have to do to keep their commander and top off of their *** and that's it. That's how it works in the Army, anyways.
My job in the Army - Infantryman.
My secondary job in the army - Recruiter's Assistant (i'm a PFC, promoted to Specialist next month)

Can i be exempt plz? :]

I take a great deal of pride in the Coast Guard just because I've grown up on bases and a bunch of people I know are Coasties. I usually can take some of the flak they get, but it really does piss me off when people try to say they're worthless. The USCG is constantly sending ships to the Persian Gulf and across the Pacific to escort carriers and do support missions.

Not to mention the millions of pounds of drugs they confiscate and hundreds of lives they save in Alaska/Gulf of Mexico/Atlantic/Pacific/any body of water. If I join a service, it's pretty much guaranteed to be USCG.

And I think just because they're DHS doesn't mean they're not really military. I guess they're more of a police force, but they still get all the benefits, which is good since my Dad can transfer his GI bill TA to me next summer.

And I have a recruiter story. My friend enlisted in the Army as some kind of computer tech, I don't remember specifically, and the recruiter told him he could he could start training right out of basic. Well, the guy lied to him and come to find it out would be like 5 years before he could do what he wanted to do. So my friend, committed, couldn't get out, so he actually had to drop out of high school. He would have gone to Iraq, and yeah, it's pretty ****ty that he was that adamant about not fighting, but he was lied to and didn't anticipate it.
