Compare/Contrast DP Markers - animations

I just so happened to notice some people being confused about all the markers that Dangerous Power has released ... so heres some information on each

Fusion 7 - their first marker

General Fusion maintenance

Some facts

-Weight = 2.41 lbs

-It is a FASOR (forward actuated spring operated return) ... basically what that means is a solenoid allows regulated air behind the rammer ... which travels forward and strikes a "poppet valve" which in turn releases air through the bolt and fires the paintball
-As stated above ... it is a poppet valve marker (a stacked tube poppet marker to be more exact)
-It uses a low pressure regulator (where as the F8 does not)

a good way to think of it is as a reverse spyder ... the spring does not control the rammer ... it only returns it to the "rest" position

heres xluben's page on how FASORS work ... it goes much more in depth

it operates similar ... but not exactly as the infinity legend ... seen here

Fusion 7 Limited Edition

Some facts

-Basically the same marker as the F7 with a few upgrades which include
-Lifetime warranty
-Hyper color kit with new style trigger
-Flush mount rear cap
-RAPS (rapid air pressurizing system) which is the bottomline/ASA

Fusion 8

Some facts

-Height = 7.3 in
-Length (with stock barrel) = 19 in
-Weight = 2.01 lbs
-Operating Pressure = 250 psi

-Works essentially the same way as the fusion 7 ... however it does not come with a LPR (which in no way is a bad thing) in most cases simplicity makes things work better
-Has different milling
-Comes with RAPS ASA

Threshold

Bolt maintenance guide (Threshold)

Some facts

-Height = 8.08 in
-Length (with stock barrel) = 19.8 in
-Weight = 1.94 lbs
-Operating pressure = 150 psi

-It is a spool valve marker - meaning that in some way the bolt acts as the valve ... heres the animation ... please note it is not my animation

G3/IQ

Some facts

-Hight = 7.84 in
-Length (with stock barrel) = 19.5 in
-Weight = 1.86 lbs
-Operating pressure = 180 psi

-Very similar to the threshold design/operation ... but smaller
-Comes with RAPS ASA

again ... not my animation

Generalizations and what makes these guns different

All of these guns come stock with break beam eyes, a decent to good board, a good reg etc etc ... so whats the main difference between them?

the main difference is the two valve styles ... poppet/spool ... so ill touch on both (listing the pros of each respectively)

Poppet
-generally considered to have better efficiency than spool valves
-Less orings to lube in the marker
-generally need less maintenance than spool valve markers

Spool
-considered to have a "smoother" feel to each shot (some translate this to less kick)
-considered to be "easier" on paint by many ... though not necessarily proven

Every marker is different, however, that said, these generalizations apply fairly well to the DP line of markers ... so one should ask themselves what properties they want in a marker and decide accordingly

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: ... this document is in no way finished ... i do not have the wealth of information as some do in the DP forums and this was just an attempt to put a large portion of information in the same place ... PLEASE recommend things that i should include/change/exclude ... it would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Kurt

Nicely done.

I think the Fusion LE should be in there also. It's essentially just a fusion but does have differences from the regular Fusion. The lifetime warranty, hyper color kit standard which includes the new trigger design, more flush mount rear cap, and best of all... RAPS.

With a little bit more info on the markers, you would have my vote for a STICKY.

Yeah, with a bit more info this could definitely be good.

Here's a post I made on how a FASOR works for the uber-noobs out there:

Looks good but the valves in Fusions are called "poppet" valves not "pop-it"
valves.

Couple things to update.
Dp's spools (Threshold and G3)
Have less orings and are easier to maintain.

Quote:

you have these under poppit.

Efficiency of my markers is unique I guess, so you may want to take a vote or poll to efficiency averages on all the markers.
Also list that all DP markers can run on LP or HP air. Seems to be a common question lately.

Links to manuals would be helpful too.

If you could find out the aftermarket parts for each, that would be good. Or you could just link to aftermarket list in the sticky, if it's still there. Links to the Breakdowns of each like in the sticky or fact/info like xluben posted on the G3.

This layout looks more like a base page to DP markers. Like a good starting page for links to everything else. IMO could replace the Ultimate sticky as being the place to send newb DP owners to look up info.

An animation for the actual F7 would be nice, with air flows. Xluben's animations are good. One like that for the F7 would be killer.

Also, slightly OT, I heard you could take the LPR from an F7 and replace it with just a front cap from an F8. Is this true? Are there any performance benefits?

I think he meant the 1 ram o-ring on the Fusion/F8 was less than the 4 bolt o-rings on the Threshold/G3. Not that the DP spoolers have less o-rings than any other spooler.

I think I'd rather see a FULL update to the sticky with this included.

There really is no need for the Fusion but maybe I'll do it if I have time. Just
look at the one for the Legend, it is basically identical to both Fusions.

Yes, F8 and Fusion front caps/LPR's are interchangeable.

agreed ... and the fact that the valve orings rarely need lubing ... where as with spoolers you generally want to lube up the whole assembly after a few days play ... not as large of an issue with poppet valves

i was under the assumption that the F8 has a stronger noid rated for a higher pressure ... IE the lack of a LPR ... is this incorrect?

edit: ... added a few new things ... measurements were taken straight off DP's website, however, i was wondering if the weight was with or without barrel/battery

also added the general fusion maint. (which is missing many pictures ... if someone would remake that thread or even send me some pictures to make one myself that would be great) and threshold bolt maint. hyperlinks

also added the link to "how a FASOR works" that xluben put together

The DP listed weight for the F8 is WAYYY off. It is heavier than a Threshold for sure:

iQ with battery
738 Grams = 1.63 lbs = 26.03 oz

Threshold with battery
884 Grams = 1.94 lbs = 31.18 oz

Mini + battery
852 + 46 = 898 Grams = 1.98 lbs = 31.68 oz

F8 with battery
916 Grams = 2.01 lbs = 32.31 oz

F7 with battery
1096 Grams = 2.41 lbs = 38.66 oz

iQ=G3 in weight?

Is the g3 really taller than the F8? I thought that it was a lot smaller.

iQ and G3 should be VERY close in weight. Only difference is feedneck and ASA
(and minimal milling). I would guess within an ounce easily.

Threshold does come with RAPS.

No.

I'm guessing DP did their measuring/weighing of the F8 with a lot of the parts taken off to build up some "hype".
