Starting a University of South Carolina Paintball Club
Hey Nation,
I saw a thread about this already and it kind of died so I figured I'd start a new one about seriously getting this started. I have already looked into it and we need 10 signatures and a faculty adviser. There are a good amount of fields within an hour of Columbia and it seems people have always wanted to get this started but it just never got off the ground. I mainly want to focus on tournament play and registering as a Class AA NCPA team but for a new club this may be high hopes. So for now anyone who just wants to play paintball is what I'm looking for. Once we get together and get established as a club on campus we can look into registering for NCPA tournaments and getting a tournament squad together. From my understanding we will have a chance to request funding but that is further down the road. Right now I would like to focus on getting at least ten people who want to play paintball and have the hopes of joining the NCPA and want to get a home field. Also my name is Robert Maloof I'm a junior, and my email is rmaloof3@yahoo.com if you want to send me an email but lets try to keep everything on the nation so people can see whats going on. Anyone who has any suggestions or advice, I am open to criticism. Help me out. I just want what you guys want, to play for the university and wear a big gamecock jersey.

We do not have a sponsor field at the moment. We have PBC rock hill, and palmetto hills paintball that we play/practice at and take the club to.
The guys down in ccu have had a team less than a year and are getting their own field on campus. So we will hopefully be making trips down there to have scrimmages and stuff.

overshot see you in the spring.
and that's crazy you guys are getting your own field at ccu? so lucky.
I don't think we could make anything like that happen here in Columbia because we're in the middle of the city but I'm going to start looking for a home field within an hour from campus.

don't forget about ballbusters. I'm sure theres a couple players out there that go to school. also, if you want some help, contact the moderator evilpoptart. that's mike, he's a big usc supporter and graduated from there a couple years back. i think he tried to get a club/team off the ground but didn't quite make it. but he can give you some pointers.

not from here, just live here now. nah, i went to usca and graduated from uscb. you also need to look in to the possibility of having players from usc affiliates like usca, uscb, etc. i'd really like to see this get off the ground. i'd pay solid cash to have a jersey with a gamecock on it.
did you get anything back from mike?
also, where do you guys play? most of my guys are still out of ballbusters and we occasionally go to greenville, maybe rock hill. a few of them play for east coast elite.

I checked the NCPA rules and part of it says that if the universities offer the same degrees then its fine to play together. I believe that is the case with USC but I do need to check up on it more.
I pm'd Mike but I didn't get anything back yet.

We are getting this started up! PM me for information we are going to get together soon to meet, practice and plan! This will most likely take place at BallBusters Paintball due to its proximity to the school!

I lived right outside of Columbia growing up and went to USC. I got into paintball after college but if they had a club/team I would have gotten into it a lot sooner!!! Good luck guys!
P.S: If you guys get jerseys with a Gamecock on it.... Buying that jersey ASAP!!!!!

As someone who has had to start the same club twice (once as a student and then re-starting it as a coach) the best advice I could give you is start with a rec group. Try to host one outing a month at first and you'll quickly find the people who are really into paintball.
Plus, by going to a local field with a big group you are more likely to get the word out to the tournament players that go to your school. The field owner will really like you too which will come in handy when you need a home field.
Do the above for a semester or two and you'll end up with a big pool of rec people that will probably have some individuals who want to play tournament ball plus a couple people who already play local tournaments.
Main thing though, to para-phase Bear Bryant: "Surround yourself with people who absolutely can't live without paintball"
